From breakout regions such as the Northeast and the Deep South, to nature stays, mountain stays or seeking out quieter beach destinations, Airbnb’s latest search data reveals those emerging Thai destinations that are trending on Airbnb globally.
Topping the list is Mae Hong Son in Thailand’s north which has seen an approximately 150 percent year-on-year increase in searches by Airbnb guests, comparing figures for the first three months of this year to the same time period in 2023. The southern province of Trang ranks second, with a nearly 140 percent surge in searches. The central province of Ayutthaya and the coastal province of Satun on the Malaysian border rank third and fourth respectively, with Phetchaburi rounding out the top five.
“Thailand offers such a variety of interesting places to visit for international and domestic tourists, and while the major destinations remain popular with travelers from around the world, it’s exciting to see that Airbnb guests are looking for new travel experiences and are exploring places off the beaten tourist path,” said Amanpreet Bajaj, Airbnb’s General Manager for Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. “Our latest data shows that a wide range of new Thai destinations are trending amongst our global guest community. Airbnb will continue to support a more equitable tourism dispersal in line with the Thai government’s policy to promote secondary tourism provinces across the country.”
