Chatrium Hospitality’s strategic growth: Insights from Group GM Rene Balmer at SEAHIS Conference 2024

Rene Balmer, Group General Manager of Chatrium Hospitality, discusses strategic growth, new developments, and market expansion in an exclusive interview at the SEAHIS Conference in Bangkok.

At the SEAHIS Conference held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Bangkok, Rene Balmer, the Group General Manager of Chatrium Hospitality, shared valuable insights into the company’s strategic growth and market expansion.

Rene Balmer, who oversees the operations and marketing for Chatrium Hospitality, provided an in-depth look at the company’s recent developments and future plans. Chatrium Hospitality comprises two brands: Chatrium Hotels and Residences and Maitria Hotels and Residences. Maitria is a relatively new addition to the brand portfolio, signifying the group’s expansion and innovation in the hospitality sector.

Expansion and New Developments

When Balmer joined Chatrium Hospitality five years ago, the company had six properties, including notable establishments such as Chatrium Riverside and Emporium Suites. Today, the brand has significantly expanded its footprint. New management contracts have been added, including Maitria Mode and Chatrium Niseko in Japan. The latter represents a semi-management contract, reflecting the company’s partial ownership stake.

Looking ahead, Chatrium Hospitality has ambitious plans for further development. The group recently signed a new property in Vietnam with 1,200 keys under the Chatrium Grand brand. Additionally, a new 320-key property is set to open in Phuket’s Rawai Beach. The pipeline also includes projects in Shanghai with 340 keys, a full villa project in Mai Tao, and another 140-key property in Samui.

Focus on Real Estate and Market Expansion

Balmer emphasized the company’s dual focus on hospitality and real estate, managing various residences alongside their hotel properties. The first Chatrium Grand, located next to Siam Paragon shopping centre in Bangkok, has already proven successful. The hotel has hosted significant events and achieved strong occupancy rates, stabilizing at 80-85%.

Importance of Industry Connections and Trends

Attending the SEAHIS Conference is vital for Balmer, not just for business transactions but for staying abreast of industry trends and maintaining valuable connections. Balmer highlighted the importance of understanding the latest market trends and fostering relationships within the industry to ensure continuous growth and adaptation.

Chatrium Hospitality, under the leadership of Rene Balmer, demonstrates a clear vision for strategic growth and market expansion. With new properties in the pipeline and a strong focus on both hospitality and real estate, Chatrium Hospitality is well-positioned to enhance its presence in Southeast Asia and beyond. The insights shared at the SEAHIS Conference underscore the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the hospitality industry.
