Vietjet and Victoria state jointly announce the operation of direct flights between HCMC and Melbourne from March 31, 2023

All flights are operated on Vietjet’s modern and comfortable wide-body A330 aircraft.

HO CHI MINH CITY – Vietjet in cooperation with the Victoria state (Australia) will operate the airline’s first service between Vietnam and Australia, connecting Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) to Melbourne from March 31, 2023. The new route’s announcement ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Tim Pallas – Victorian Minister for Trade and Investment, who heads the Victorian delegation on a working visit to Vietnam, and Mr. Dinh Viet Phuong, Vietjet Managing Director in Ho Chi Minh City.

The first flights connecting HCMC and Melbourne will be operated with three flights per week. Vietjet expects to increase its operation to seven flights per week from December 2024 when market conditions met.

All flights are operated on Vietjet’s modern and comfortable wide-body A330 aircraft. Passengers can also optimize their flying experiences with a wide range of Vietjet’s reasonable ticket classes including SkyBoss Business, SkyBoss, Deluxe and Eco. The new service’s schedule is as below.

  • On every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, flights depart from HCMC at 09:50 AM (local time) and land on Melbourne Airport at 10:35 PM (local time) on the same day.
  • On every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, flights depart from Melbourne Airport at 00:30 AM (local time) and arrive in HCMC at 05:15 AM (local time) on the same day.

Addressed at the announcement ceremony, Mr. Tim Pallas – Victorian Minister for Trade and Investment welcomed Vietjet’s decision to commence flights connecting Vietnam with Melbourne. “The arrival of another airline from Southeast Asia is a win for the Victorian economy and local jobs – showing the strength of our tourism and export markets.”

The efforts of Vietjet will lay the first stones of its grand plan to connect Vietnam and Australia and expand its global network linking Vietnam with all continents over the world. With reasonable pricing portfolios for qualified services, Vietjet expects to offer flying opportunities to millions of passengers globally. Importantly, with a combination of Vietjet’s well-planned preparation backed by Vietnamese and Australian authorities, and significant supports from Victorian government, Vietjet flights will be a catalyst for sustainable growth in tourism, trade and economy of Vietnam, Victoria, and Australia in coming years. Especially, with its existing extensive flight network, Vietjet will open up opportunities to explore Australia for tourists from Asian countries through its convenient and reasonable connecting service.

Australia and Victoria have long been popular tourism and study destinations. An estimated around 123,000 visitors to Australia in 2019 were from Vietnam. Data from Vietnam General Statistics Office reveals that in 2021, bilateral trade between Vietnam and Australia reached its ever record at USD12.4 billion. This turnover is expected to further grow thanks to the arrival of Vietjet in Australian market in 2023.

Earlier, during a meeting with Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman H.E. Vuong Dinh Hue, Mr. Tim Pallas shared plans to promote cooperation between Victoria and Vietnam in areas where the state has strengths such as energy transition, education and training, aviation, and tourism in 2023 and the following years.
