Federal, state and territory ministers of Australia unanimously backed a motion at last week`s Tourism Ministers Council meeting in Hobart that opposed all forms of whaling.
The ministers recognised the importance of whale watching to the tourism industry and supported appropriate measures to permanently end what Queensland Tourism Minister Margaret Keech described as a barbaric practice.
Ms Keech, who put the motion to the meeting, said Queensland was supportive of influencing Japanese public and political opinion against whaling.
Queensland is therefore supportive of the Australian Government`s proposal to work with Tourism Australia to encourage Japanese travel writers to experience whale watching in Australia.
