Hilton International announced plans to create a luxury secluded resort complex in the heart of Western Australia`s most popular wine region.

The $52 million project, to be managed by Hilton International, will join a list of more than 40 Hilton WorldWide Resorts in some of the most beautiful destinations around the world.

Located in the famous Margaret River region three hours south of Perth, the low-rise development will be the first boutique vineyard/spa resort in Australia and will be built near premium wineries, white sandy beaches and a majestic coastline. It is scheduled to open in 2006.

Plans for the resort will feature 115 one and two bedroom suites, 15 executive suites, and 26 luxury bushland villas.

The centrepiece of the site will be a luxury day spa and health centre constructed above an existing 6.6-hectare lake and accessed by boardwalk or boat. Other facilities include a lakeside restaurant and conference facilities.

Koos Klein, President of Hilton International Middle East & Asia Pacific said the resort will be sympathetic to the natural environment and `will be hidden in a secluded valley, fringed by working vineyards and featuring extensive use of natural materials.`

Currently around 95 per cent of visitors to the region are drawn from the Perth metropolitan area. Hilton, through its world-wide marketing network and partnerships with more than 55 airline and cruise companies, will significantly broaden the market appeal of the region, attracting increasing numbers of international visitors with particular emphasis on the short to mid haul markets of Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

`The South West wine region of Western Australian is recognised as one of the finest wine growing areas in the world.` Mr Klein said.

`Coupled with the clean air, beautiful beaches and fantastic local wine and food, we believe the location will provide a unique and rejuvenating, world-class resort experience for our guests.`
