Dynamic Leadership Drives SKAL International Thailand’s Vision for a Sustainable Tourism Future


SKAL International Thailand announces James Thurlby as President and Kanokros Wongvekin as SKAL Bangkok President, focusing on modernization, sustainable tourism, and female leadership.

Bangkok – SKAL International Thailand is excited to announce its new dynamic leadership team poised to drive the Thai tourism industry forward. Founded in 1934 in France, SKAL International now has its headquarters in Spain and boasts 12,007 members across 306 clubs in 82 countries worldwide, including six active clubs in Thailand Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Samui, Krabi, and Hua Hin.

James Thurlby has been in the global tourism industry for over half his life. At 44, he is the youngest president of SKAL International Thailand. With a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management and experience with Thomas Cook and Norwich Airport in the UK, James currently manages Move Ahead Media, a digital marketing company serving the tourism and hospitality sectors. He joined SKAL International Bangkok as Digital Marketing Director four years ago and was elected President two years later. James is committed to modernizing SKAL Thailand, making it more relevant and dynamic for today’s tourism professionals.

James oversees the management of all SKAL clubs in Thailand, supporting each club’s activities and ensuring smooth operations. His goal is to foster connections among tourism industry professionals, encouraging them to share experiences, build friendships, and collaborate on business ventures. James emphasizes SKAL Thailand’s role in promoting sustainable tourism, as evidenced by their recent awards in this area.

Kanokros (Sakdanares) Wongvekin, President of SKAL International Bangkok

Kanokros Wongvekin is the first female president of SKAL International Bangkok. With nearly 30 years of experience in hotel marketing communications and public relations, her new role presents a significant challenge and opportunity. Recommended by her colleagues for her extensive experience and reputation in international hotel management and PR, Kanokros joined SKAL’s executive committee and quickly rose to become Director of Public Relations.

Her career spans notable positions at Sol Twin Towers, Amari Watergate, Amari Atrium, Royal Orchid Sheraton, and Centara Hotels & Resorts. As the youngest president of the Hotel Public Relations Association, Kanokros has made significant strides in raising SKAL’s profile in Thailand’s tourism sector. Her efforts have included public relations campaigns, inviting key figures to SKAL events, and leading successful charity initiatives.

“Being the first woman elected as President of SKAL International Bangkok is a milestone for our industry. It shows that with passion, dedication, and vision, we can break barriers and create new paths for future generations.”, says Kanokros Wongvekin.

Kanokros’s achievements include organizing high-profile speakers for SKAL events, such as former Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij and Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa, enhancing the organization’s visibility and impact. She is particularly proud of being the first woman elected as President of SKAL International Bangkok in 30 years, a testament to her vision and dedication.

Looking ahead, Kanokros plans to build a strong executive committee with a focus on female leadership in the tourism industry. She aims to organize events that elevate the role of women in business and expand SKAL’s membership base, inviting more tourism leaders to join the organization.
