Once again, the World Tourism Organization will participate in the 10th Annual South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) which will be held in New Delhi, India from 27-30 March 2003. WTO Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Dawid de Villiers and WTO Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, Dr. Harsh Varma will attend its opening session.
WTO and SATTE have been collaborating closely over the past three years in the marketing and promotion of intra-regional tourism in the region. This relationship began when both institutions realized that they shared a common concern for the low market share that South Asian nations have in global tourism – the Region did not receive the number of tourists commensurate with the wealth and diversity of its tourism products. WTO and SATTE believed that the development of a common marketing and promotional strategy would be a valuable tool for the South Asian nations in increasing their marketing scope within major source countries. As a result, WTO and SATTE prepared in 2002 the first ever inter-active CD-ROM, entitled Destination South Asia. The disc featured in-depth information on the tourism resources and services of eight South Asian nations.
The WTO/SATTE cooperation activities are not limited to South Asian countries only and the celebration of this year`s SATTE will also serve as an annual event to bring together major players in the Asia-Pacific tourism industry to discuss new avenues for the further development of intra-regional tourism.
Against this background and within the framework of SATTE 2003, the two partners are organizing an Asia-Pacific Seminar on Intra-Regional Tourism which will be held in New Delhi, India on 29 March 2003. The Seminar would be held in: Hall N8, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi whereas SATTE 2003 will be held in Halls 10 and 11, adjacent to the Seminar venue.
SATTE is fast gaining prominence in the tourism community as an important tourism and travel trade fair. Over 3,000 agents and operators are slated to take part in this Mart which is South Asia`s biggest travel show. It will also draw 10,000 corporate and 20,000 holidaymakers.
