The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) today announced the election of Vincent A. Wolfington as its new Chairman, following the retirement in December 2003 of Sir Ian Prosser.

Mr Wolfington, who was previously WTTC`s Vice Chairman for Membership and is on the Executive Committee of the Council, is Chairman & CEO of Carey International. He has been a Member of WTTC since 1994.

Mr Wolfington has served on numerous other industry-related boards, including the Board of Advisors of the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the International Board of Counselors, which was chaired by Henry Kissinger.

Mr Wolfington said The Travel & Tourism industry is one of the largest employers in the world and WTTC`s central goal, to make governments aware of the full economic potential of the sector, is of the utmost importance.

Vincent Wolfington takes over the Chairmanship at a time when the Council has renewed its message to industry and governments across the world, setting out a new vision for successful and sustainable tourism. As Chairman, my priority will be to help communicate the Blueprint for New Tourism across all national borders and to help realize the vision set out in the Blueprint, particularly in the rapidly emerging markets for Travel & Tourism growth, such as China and Russia. I am keen to further raise the profile of Tourism Satellite Accounting, the internationally accepted methodology for forecasting the economic impact of our industry, which was developed by WTTC. The Global Travel & Tourism Summit, which will involve the Chairmen and CEOs of many of the leading companies in the sector and takes place in Doha in early May will also be at the top of my agenda.

WTTC President, Jean-Claude Baumgarten, said I have worked closely with Vince since I joined WTTC in 1999. He has been a thoughtful counselor and his knowledge of WTTC and the legacy of people associated with it, which is derived by his many years of service on the Executive Committee, will be invaluable as we drive our organization to another level with governments all over the world. He has been especially helpful in the defining of WTTC`s policies in the Executive Committee and has contributed considerably to expanding the membership.

Jean-Claude Baumgarten continued: I would like to take this opportunity to thank very much Sir Ian Prosser for his valuable leadership over the last 3 years during which time WTTC has greatly improved its financial position and has become far more widely known and respected.

Under Mr Wolfington`s leadership, Carey International has become the world`s largest chauffeured vehicle service company. Its high-level customers have put Carey in a position to be the market leader and the one to call in 480 cities and 75 countries.

Mr Wolfington graduated from Georgetown University in 1962. He now resides in Washington, DC; Jupiter Island, Florida; and Hyannis Port, Massachusetts with his wife, Alicia. He has five children.
