Upgrade almost completed for Penang International Airport

Penang International Airport will inaugurate its new shops until the ned of January, the last phase of a comprehensive renovation process.

SEPANG – Malaysia Airports unveiled recently that the Penang International Airport renovation and upgrading works (“Works”) have been substantially completed.

The new and upgraded facilities have been made available for public use in stages, and with all the departure gates now being operational, the Airport has been functioning at full capacity in most of the upgraded areas.

As a result of the Works, the passenger flow throughout the Airport has improved significantly with the opening of all the departure gates. To enhance passenger facilities further, the transfer corridor is undergoing additional upgrading work to now provide for a lift as well as escalator.

The retail and F&B areas have been expanded and redesigned with the outlets now in the process of being handed over to the retailers for fit-out. Malaysia Airports has taken on board feedback from airport users to ensure the right tenant and product mix at the revamped Airport so as to meet the passengers’ requirements. With this, passengers will soon be able to enjoy a greater variety of retail and F&B offerings at the Airport.

Additional upgrading works have been completed by the end of December 2012 while the airport authority expects that retailers and F&B operators to open their shops in stages until end of January 2013.
