Tibet tourism on the rise

NEARLY 100 thousand domestic and overseas tourists visited China`s mountainous region of Tibet in the first quarter of this year…

NEARLY 100 thousand domestic and overseas tourists visited China`s mountainous region of Tibet in the first quarter of this year, a six percent increase from the same period of last year, according to statistics released by the Tibetan Tourism Bureau.

Overseas tourists to the region were mainly presented by those from the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Netherlands, Switzerland and Singapore. Together with domestic travelers, they brought in about RMB90 million (US$11 million) in revenue.

The bureau`s deputy director, Mr Deng Zhu, said this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Tibet Autonomous Region and they expect more tourists to arrive.
