Thailand is launching a major tourism campaign in China, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

The TAT`s Office in Beijing, with the cooperation of the Thailand-China Tourism Association, has launched the campaign, aimed to attract more Chinese tourist arrivals in the kingdom, particularly during the forthcoming Chinese New Year festival early next month.

The campaign was also aimed at welcoming Chinese tourists back to Thailand`s southern Andaman beaches, which are recovering after last month`s tsunamis, said the Director of the TAT`s Beijing Office, Suvat Chuthakorn.

Under the campaign, scheduled for 1 January-30 April, Chinese tourists who stay in Thailand`s southern resort province of Phuket for more than two nights would be presented with a telephone card, worth about US$12.

The office will take US$1.2 off the sale of tour packages for each tourist to donate to victims of the 26 December`s tsunami disaster.
