Travellers who miss their friends and family while in transit at Singapore Changi Airport can now see them face-to-face in cyberspace.

Changi Airport has introduced its newest Internet-based facility called iConnect. Located at Terminal 2, the IT corner has 30 internet-ready PCs that are enabled by web-cameras and audio systems, These allow travellers at Changi Airport to log on and conduct a video conference with their friends, families and even business associates all for free.

That`s not all. iConnect is also fitted with 6 Xbox consoles offering even the most restless young traveller an exciting online gaming experience. Games offered on the consoles now include Soul Calibur II, Splinter Cell, Shrek 2, Pitfall (The Lost Expedition), Project Gotham Racing 2 and Crimson Skies (High Road to Revenge). These will be updated periodically when the latest versions are made available.

Finally, travellers who visit iConnect will find that they can choose the TV programme they wish to view via an interactive content display mechanism fitted into all the PCs. For travellers with their own laptops, there are 14 dial-up connection and power points at iConnect.

As Singapore is also a highly IT-literate place with excellent standards of IT services and infrastructure, Changi Airport being the first point of contact for foreigners, should also reflect the high-tech nature of Singapore.

Changi Airport has also introduced other IT based services for passengers, including 200 free Internet terminals, 8 Infra-red and 14 dial-up connections points for laptop users. Usage rates at the 200 free PC terminals have proven that IT-based services are popular with travellers. On average, the number of log-ins at the 200 free PCs has gone up by six to ten per cent a month, over the last three months.
