Star Alliance, the airline network for earth, today introduced a comprehensive travel information section on its website staralliance.com which adds to a growing list of on-line services designed for international travellers.

The new travel information section on staralliance.com offers users a broad range of destination information including country and city guides, weather, key contacts, accommodation, dining, sightseeing and entertainment. Using flash technology, the site also features detailed airport maps of 42 major hub airports across the network, which clearly depict check-in, lounge and ticketing locations.

`With www.staralliance.com, we continually strive to put our network, our products and everything the global traveller needs at our customers` fingertips,` said Louise McKenven, Vice President – Loyalty and Marketing, Star Alliance.

The site, which was redesigned earlier this year, also features downloadable timetables for the entire alliance network and a novel screen-saver which graphically displays real-time flight paths of all Star Alliance member carrier flights on that particular day. What is not visible to the user is a state-of-the-art content management system which allows the alliance to provide more timely and detailed information on product offerings and promotions.

`The new features and new look have generated a lot of interest,` added McKenven. `We have over 500,000 visitors a month and that will continue to grow as we add features that meet the needs of our customers.`

Star Alliance was established in 1997 as the first truly global airline alliance to offer customers global reach and a smooth travel experience. The members are Air Canada, Air New Zealand, ANA – All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Austrian Airlines Group, bmi, Lufthansa, Mexicana Airlines, SAS, Singapore Airlines, Spanair, Thai Airways International, United, and VARIG Brazilian Airlines. LOT Polish Airlines and US Airways are scheduled to join the alliance within the next 12 months.
