Cooperatives in Sabah need to gain knowledge, especially on business opportunities in the tourism sector, to succeed, Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman said.

If this can be done together, I am confident that the development of Sabah`s tourism industry can be enhanced and the people as a whole can benefit from this success, he said in a speech at the launch of the Sabah Cooperative Tourism Seminar last Friday.

The text of his speech was read out by the Assistant State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Datuk Karim Bujang.

The three-day seminar is organised by Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Bhd (Angkasa).

Musa said tourism was one of the main focuses of the State Government and I hope Angkasa`s noble aim of organising this tourism seminar will become a catalyst to the development of the State`s tourism industry.

Musa said the cooperatives should also view their members as existing markets for their tourism packages, which should be designed according to their needs and offered at competitive prices.

He also said Angkasa`s host and visitors concept in the programme was very interesting as it was an effort to understand the industry and take into account the needs of tourists.
