REPORT – KUALA LUMPUR: For the first time, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) will open its PATA Gold Awards to non-PATA members as well as  members. The objective is to strengthen the PATA Gold Awards as the leading travel industry awards for the Asia Pacific region. The deadline for submissions for the 2006 PATA Gold Awards is December 1, 2005.

The PATA Gold Awards recognise exceptional achievement in a variety of endeavours, bringing acclaim to the best the region`s travel industry has to offer. The winning projects set industry standards for excellence and innovation, serving as examples for others to follow. The PATA Gold Awards competition is sponsored by the Macau Government Tourist Office.

PATA President and CEO Mr Peter de Jong said: “By opening the door to non-members as well as members, our aim is to grow the PATA Gold Awards to become the undisputed leader of travel industry awards in the Asia Pacific region. All entries – from members and non-members – will be judged on an equal footing. We promise that.”

In addition to the 43 Gold Awards, PATA will present Grand Awards for “best of show” entries in the following four categories: Environment, Education & Training, Heritage & Culture and Marketing. Other categories include travel journalism, multimedia and public relations.

All award recipients will be honoured during a special luncheon at the 55th PATA Annual Conference in Pattaya, April 23-27, 2006, and will also be featured in the PATA 2006 Conference Daily. The winning entries will be on display at the Conference for all delegates to enjoy. All winners will receive complimentary copies of the 2006 PATA Gold Awards booklet, which will showcase the winning entries. The winning entries invariably attract a lot of positive media coverage throughout the travel industry. Entries are judged by travel industry experts in the relevant category.

Mr João Manuel Costa Antunes, Director of the Macau Government Tourist Office said: “The Macau Government Tourist Office is proud to once again sponsor the PATA Gold Awards. The awards recognise exceptional achievement and devotion within the Asia Pacific travel industry. They motivate our industry to pursue higher standards.”
