Pantares, an alliance between Fraport AG (Frankfurt Airport Services World-wide) and Schiphol Group — and its Tradeport Hong Kong Ltd. partners have been chosen by the Hong Kong International Airport Authority (HKIA) to develop and manage a new logistics center over a 27-year period at Chek Lap Kok Airport. Pantares holds a 37.5 percent share in the winning Tradeport Hong Kong Ltd. consortium. The three local partners include service provider and handling company Jardine Logistics Services (HKG) Ltd. and real estate developer/investor Hong Kong Land Holdings Limited with a combined 37.5 percent share, and the Chinese government`s China National Aviation Company Ltd. (CNAC) with the remaining 25 percent. About a dozen International competitors bid against Tradeport Hong Kong Ltd. for the logistics center project.
The consortium will invest some HK$500 million in building and equipping the advanced facility. Construction on a 1.38-hectare site in the South Commercial District of the Airport Island is scheduled to start in the secondhalf of 2001, with operations begins in early 2003. Designed as a four-story building, the Tradeport Hong Kong center will initially comprise more than 28,000 square meters of floor space and will later be expanded to over 41,000 square meters.
To be called Tradeport Hong Kong, the logistics and distribution center will be the first complex for logistics services to be built at Chek Lap Kok Airport, complementing existing cargo handling and forwarding facilities.
Tradeport Hong Kong will serve as a cargo handling and distribution center with fast goods logistics and services including customs clearance, storage (bonded warehouse), testing, packaging, labeling, and re-packing to complete warehouse and delivery management.
