New aviation security measures will be implemented for flights departing Singapore Changi Airport and Seletar Airport from 8 May 2007 (Tuesday), 1200 hours as the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore stated. The new measures restrict the amount of liquids, aerosols and gels that passengers can carry onboard in their hand-carry luggage.
Liquids, Aerosols and Gels in Hand-Carry Luggage
Passengers are advised to check-in all liquids, aerosols and gels items not required during their flight in their check-in luggage. Liquids, aerosols and gels required during the flight should be packed in accordance with the new restrictions, before passengers arrive at the airport.
The restrictions are:
- Liquids, aerosols and gels must be in containers with a maximum capacity of not more than 100ml each. Liquids, aerosols and gels in containers larger than 100ml will not be accepted, even if the container is partially-filled
- Containers must be placed in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity not exceeding 1-litre. These containers must fit comfortably within the transparent re-sealable plastic bag, which must be completely closed
- Each passenger is allowed to carry only one transparent re-sealable plastic bag, which must be presented separately for examination
- Exemptions will be made for medications, baby food and special dietary items
Passengers are encouraged to check in 2 to 3 hours before their flight (subject to airlines’ requirements).
Measures by CAAS to assist Passengers
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) will implement a number of measures to assist passengers.
More than 100 airport ambassadors will be deployed throughout the airport to assist passengers with queries.
Information panels will be set up in various locations, such as the Departure Hall and Departure Transfer Lounges, to inform passengers of the new restrictions. Pamphlets on the new restrictions will be available at information desks and regular announcements on the new measures will be made. Tables will be set up at the Departure Hall and Departure Transfer Lounges for passengers who need to re-pack their belongings.
Shopping at Changi Airport
Passengers can continue to purchase liquids, aerosols and gels, such as liquor and perfumes, at Changi Airport. Such purchases will be placed in sealed tamper-evident bags by the shops, with the receipt clearly displayed in the sealed bags. Passengers with queries on what purchases can be brought into their destination, or onto their connecting flights at another airport, if any, may seek assistance from shop staff.
