Marriott International joins Center for CREF Industry Fellows Program

The Center for Real Estate Finance (CREF) at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration is pleased to welcome Marriott International, Inc., as a new member of the CREF Industry Fellows program.

“Marriott International has been a long-time supporter of the School of Hotel Administration, partnering with the Center for Hospitality Research and sponsoring key corporate events,” said Jan deRoos, HVS Professor of Hotel Finance and Real Estate and executive director of CREF. “We are excited to welcome the company to the CREF Industry Fellows program.”

Marriott International is a leading lodging company with more than 3,500 properties in 70 countries and territories. The company operates and franchises hotels, develops and operates vacation ownership resorts, licenses and manages whole-ownership residential brands, provides furnished corporate housing, and operates conference centers. Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, Marriott has approximately 137,000 employees and is ranked by FORTUNE as the lodging industry’s most admired company and one of the best companies to work for.

“At Marriott, we are committed to hospitality research and education. By partnering with the Center for Real Estate Finance, we will work with leading scholars in real estate studies and help mentor the next generation of real estate professionals,” said Joel Eisemann, executive vice president of owner & franchise services and lodging development, select service, & extended stay brands, who will represent the company at meetings of the CREF Industry Fellows. Eisemann’s previous positions at Marriott include executive vice president of global asset management and senior vice president of lodging development for Asia Pacific. He is a graduate of the Master of Professional Studies program at the School of Hotel Administration.

The CREF Industry Fellows program is the cornerstone of the center’s outreach efforts. The program helps fund the annual Cornell Real Estate Case Competition, seminars on current industry topics, student travel to real estate investment conferences, as well as faculty research. The most recent meeting of the Industry Fellows was held in June in conjunction with the NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference in New York City.
