Malaysia has been named the official feature country for the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA<.>) Travel Mart, which will be held on April 11-14, 2000 at the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, in Singapore. As feature country, Malaysia will host the opening ceremony and offer pre- and post-Mart tours to delegates.

We are delighted that Tourism Malaysia is taking advantage of this valuable promotional opportunity, said Mr. Joseph A. McInerney, CEO of PATA. The feature country will benefit from the exposure, particularly as Mart bookings for 2000 are quite healthy.

Mr. Tom Nutley, Managing Director of Reed Travel Exhibitions, said, We are 30 percent above last year`s booking rate on a month-to-month basis for November and it looks as if the first PATA Travel Mart in the new millennium will be a `bumper` event.

Some 350 exhibitors from 40 countries and 350 buyers are expected to participate in PATA Travel Mart 2000. ABACUS, Bass Hotels and Resorts, Hilton International, Hong Kong Tourist Association, Hotel Equatorial International, Marriott International, REZolutions, Sheraton Towers Singapore and Singapore Tourism Board are some of the exhibiting companies who have confirmed their participation at the Mart.

As a prelude to the Mart, the Asian Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus (AACVB) will hold its MeetingNet Asia 2000 Conference in Singapore from April 9-11, 2000. Organised by Venture Asia Publishing, this biennial event is expected to draw some 250 delegates from the MICE industry.

The PATA Travel Mart is jointly organised by the Pacific Asia Travel Association and Reed Travel Exhibitions.
