Luang Prabang to unveil handicraft product logo

The reputation of Luang Prabang as a centre of Laotian handicraft is strengthened by the launching of a proper logo for handicraft product, a sign also of rising quality.

LUANG PRABANG- The Provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industry Service of Luang Prabang in cooperation with the Provincial Handicraft Association of Luang Prabang will unveil the provincial logo of handicraft products on Dec 11.

The logo debut will be made on the last day of the 2nd trade fair of the province, which took place from December 7 to 11.

The development of the handicraft product logo of Luang Prabang is to make sure that the visitors buy original handicraft products made by ethnic people in the province. In addition, the logo will help improve the reputation of handicraft products of Luang Prabang, a press conference was told.

“The logo devising is also aimed at increasing the market competitiveness of handicraft products thus increasing their sales. As a result, producers and sellers will have more income and this kind of production will be promoted,” said Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ms. Chanthao Pathammavong.

The press conference was held in Luang Prabang province on 1 December in the presence of Vice President of the Lao Journalists Association, Mr. Somsanouk Misay, Vice Head of the Provincial Industry and Commerce Service of Luang Prabang, Mr. Khamphou Phommavong, Chairman of the Lao Industry Association, Ms. Chinda Phommasathit, and relevant officials.

“The 2nd handicraft trade fair is to mark the 11th anniversary of the National Handicraft Day,” said President of the Provincial Handicraft Association of Luang Prabang, Ms. Veomany Douangdala.

Besides to the disclosure of the handicraft product logo, the coming trade fair will feature the display and selling of handicraft products, household utensils, wood products, bamboo products, pottery, food, refreshments, garment products, a handicraft production demonstration, and art performance by ethnic groups, among others.

Luang Prabang held its 1st handicraft trade fair four years ago or in 2008.
