The Kuoni Group has acquired Hong Kong-based tour operator P&O Travel Hong Kong. This move is aimed at strengthening and expanding Kuoni`s operations in southern China. Kuoni has held a 50% stake in the joint venture P&O Travel Ltd. Hong Kong since 1997 – the other 50% was owned indirectly by Carnival PLC (formerly P&O Princess Cruises plc).

After buying the remaining 50% stake from Carnival Kuoni will be the sole owner, of the tour operator P&O Travel Hong Kong. It will continue to licence the rights to use the P&O name in connection with its business in Hong Kong and China for a limited period. The joint venture, which was set up in 1997, will be wound up and its activities integrated into the Kuoni Group`s operations.

This decision is set to reinforce the Swiss travel group`s market position in Hong Kong. The Group`s presence in Hong Kong will also serve as a springboard for further expansion in southern China, centring on the Pearl River Delta region (Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan), which is home to some 40 million people and is among the most prosperous economic areas in the whole of Asia.
