The Japan Tourism Association submitted a proposal on visa exemption for five regional countries and territories to the Government on Thursday.
The proposal aims to attract about 10 million visitors to Japan by 2010. At present, Japan welcomes 5 million visitors a year.
The Tourism Association asked the Government to grant visa exemption to tourists from the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and China, who visit Japan for a period of two to four weeks.
Concerning China, Japan will exempt visas for people from Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou provinces and all school students.
