Malaysia will host the first ever Commonwealth Ministers of Tourism Conference on 18 to 21 March, 2004 at the Palace of the Golden Horses, Kuala Lumpur. Over 50 member countries of the Commonwealth are expected to attend the conference.

In conjunction with this, the inaugural Commonwealth Travel Mart 2004 will also be held simultaneously at the Malaysia International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC), which is located near the Palace of the Golden Horses.

The purpose of the Ministers of Tourism Conference is to address issues on travel and tourism pertinent to all Commonwealth members, such as the exchange of tourism information, developing common security arrangements and the setting up of the Commonwealth Tourism Promotion Centre, among others. The Ministers of Tourism Conference will be preceded by the Senior Officials Meeting on 18 March 2004.

The official joint opening of the Commonwealth Tourism Ministers Conference and the Commonwealth Travel Mart will be at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 19 March 2004 at the Palace of the Golden Horses and will be officiated by The Right Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato` Seri Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi. This will be followed by a welcome dinner and cultural show.

Concurrently, the Commonwealth Travel Mart 2004 will witness approximately 500 participants from within and outside the Commonwealth countries conducting travel trade business deals and putting up exhibitions. Both buyers and sellers will convene on Friday, 19 March 2004 at the Malaysia International Exhibition & Convention Centre.
