G Hotel contributes to the environment

G Hotel contributed RM1,100 for the mangrove rehabilitation programme, which aims to restore rivers and encourage sustainable use of peatlands, forests and wetlands to conserve biodiversity and mitigate climate change.

A hundred mangrove trees have been planted as part of a programme to help the coastal environment at Sungai Acheh, Nibong Tebal, Penang, thanks to a collaboration between G Hotel and the Penang Inshore Fisherman Welfare Association (PIFWA).

G Hotel contributed RM1,100 for the mangrove rehabilitation programme, which aims to restore rivers and encourage sustainable use of peatlands, forests and wetlands to conserve biodiversity and mitigate climate change.

Sungai Acheh is a mangrove forest, which not only protects the coastal areas from natural hazards such as storms, tidal waves and tsunamis but mangroves are also a breeding ground for fish and crustaceans that provide income and food for local communities.

G Hotel provided 13 staff members including the Head of Departments (HOD) and G Hotel’s staff volunteers, together with PIFWA members, to plant the mangrove trees.

Mr Mat Shah, Secretary of PIFWA, Sungai Acheh briefed all volunteers about the importance of mangrove tree planting, as well as the technique and safety precautions. The process involved a lot of walking through thick mud.

We hope to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our environment for future generations,” Mr Michael Hanratty, the General Manager of G Hotel Gurney and G Hotel Kelawai, says.

This Mangrove Rehabilitation Programme by G Hotel is one of their GO Green Programmes to help conserve the environment, protect our earth and eradicate practices that destruct our habitat. G Hotel has organized numerous charitable events since the opening in 2007 such as donation for Save our Strays Penang (SOS), bathing the dogs at SPCA, buying Christmas presents for orphans, donation to old folks’ home, cleaning of Gurney Drive area, raising funds for the underprivileged, donating furniture to schools, organizing educational classes to instil five-star F&B and hospitality knowledge to children from some Homes and schools in close proximity to the hotel. The objectives of G Hotel organizing these charitable and meaningful events at various non-profitable organizations are to engage hotel staffs to participate, cultivate benevolence amongst the staff, enhance the skill of employees and further involve in the local community.
