The opening ceremony of EMITT 2003 realised with the participation of Minister of Toursim, Guldal Aksit, Chairman of TOBB, Rifat Hisarciklioglu, Mayor of Istanbul, Ali Mufit Gurtuna, Aide Governor of Istanbul, Cumhur Guven Tasbasi, the official partners of EMITT: the chairman of TYD, Tavit Koletavitoglu and the Chairman of TUROB, Sinan Babila; the organizator, the chairman of board of Ekin Exhibition – Halim BULUTOGLU and the chairman of board of TUYAP – Bulent UNAL.
The official guest of Ali Mufit Gurtuna, Mayor of Istanbul, Risto Penov, Mayor of Uskup, 11 regional associations under the umbrella of TUROB, 32 associations, foundations and social organizations supporting the exhibition and more than 500 tourism professionals were also present at the opening ceremony.
Just after the opening ceremony, The panel The Turkish and International tourism from the point of view of National and International Tour Operators took place with the moderation of Tavit Koletavitoglu – Chairman of TYD and the participation of Jens Friis Jensen – World Toursim Organisation, Oguz UNVER – TUI/Tantur and Huseyin BARANER – Oger TUR.
In spite of the Iraq war just near us, and the global economical crises, the area of exhibition of EMITT increased from 7500 m2 (4078 m2 stand area) at EMITT 2002 to 11.200 m2 (6501 m2 stand area) this year at EMITT 2003; that corresponds to 59%.
There were 22 international exhibitors at EMITT 2003 such as: Iran, Malaysia, Russia, Cyprus, South Africa, Ukraine, Italy, Egypt, Bulgaria, Crimea, FYROM, England.
The exhibition was visited by 138 invited tour operators by the Organisation (Hosted Buyers) and 17.000 tourism professionals at the first two days only open for professionals. Also, 79.000 consumer visitors had visited EMITT 2003 at 4 days. The total number of the visitors have risen up to 100.000.
According to the survey realised between the exhibitors of EMITT 2003, the exhibitors that their expectations responded reached to 88% of overall. 80% of the exhibitors think that the number and the quality of the professional visitors was satisfactory; 75% think that the amount and the quality of public visitors was good enough and 90% think positive about the general of EMITT 2003 Exhibition.
This result shows that, at the first two days that was only open for professional visitors, at the level of density and meeting, this year`s exhibition was the most successful of all years.
The gala night, being organised every year at the first day of the exhibition, was realised at Yerebatan Cistern this year, with the support of KULTUR A.S. as the main sponosor and Armada Hotel, Mavi Catering, Karakoy Gulluoglu, Bahar Pastaneleri, Nescafe, Maggie, Carlsberg, Dimes, Diren Vines, Altinbas Alsu as the gala night sponsors.
Istanbul and Uskup become Sister Cities at EMITT 2003
At the first day of EMITT, just after the opening ceremony, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Uskup Municipality signed the sister city protocol, with the participation of Guldal Aksit, The Minister of Tourism of Turkey.
Mr. Risto Penov, the mayor of USKUP invited to Turkey by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, said that they were happy to realise this ceremony at EMITT. The dance group from FYROM realised a show of regional dances after the ceremony.
EMITT hosted several activities about International and National Tourism
At the second day of EMITT, the panel Vision Istanbul -The target is 10 million Tourists took place with the moderation of Talha Camas – visitur and the participation of Ismail Kokbulut – Permanent Undersecretary of Ministry of Tourism, Cengiz Ozdemir – General Manager of Kultur A.S, Cumhur Guven Tasbasi – Aide Governor of Istanbul.
