Down Under Answers, LLC, a leading wholesaler of leisure travel to the South Pacific, appointed Kathryn Newton as regional sales director. Based in San Diego, CA, Kathryn will drive travel agent sales and education, including the development of travel shows and educational seminars, throughout Southern California and the Southwest.
Previously, Kathryn served as market development coordinator at Tourism New Zealand (TNZ) in Santa Monica, CA. At TNZ, Kathryn managed market development for retail relations and consumer/media events throughout North America, and directed the Kiwi Specialist Program, a training program for North American agents specializing in New Zealand travel. As part of this program, Kathryn organized TNZ`s first Kiwi Specialist travel agent show, held in Los Angeles in May 2003.
Kathryn was involved with several other innovative training programs including Season of Discovery Famil in partnership with Air New Zealand in October 2002. For this program, she designed and managed intensive small-group FIT itineraries spanning New Zealand and a full-day workshop looking at issues of seasonality and regional tourism spread. Additionally, Kathryn managed the 2001 and 2002 Discover NZ traveling motor-home training sessions where she provided educational seminars to retail agents across the East and West coasts of the U.S. and select locations throughout Eastern Canada.
Kathryn`s appointment is a significant milestone for Down Under Answers as we continue to expand our presence in South Pacific travel, said Jillian Barrow, vice president of sales and marketing at Down Under Answers. Kathryn`s experience at Tourism New Zealand in Santa Monica provided her with invaluable knowledge of the U.S. travel market and key relationships throughout the industry. She will be instrumental in driving sales for special interest and mainstream travel across several large markets.

Kathryn holds a bachelor degree in marketing and tourism from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and earned a certificate from UCLA`s Public Relations Extensions program. She is a volunteer for Tree People nature restoration and the Coachart child development non-profit group, and is a native of Wanganui, New Zealand.
