The Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Juthamas Siriwan, has dismissed press reports that China had advised Chinese tourists against travelling to Thailand following last month`s tsunami disaster.
Local tourist authorities in China`s Canton Province had advised tourists to exercise caution when travelling to tsunami-hit countries, including Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and India, she told TNA on Friday.
The travel advisory was later cancelled after the TAT`s Beijing office explained the situation to the Chinese authorities, she said.
We are confident that the disaster won`t affect Chinese tourists who have planned to come to Thailand during the forthcoming Chinese New Year festival, Mrs. Juthamas said.
An initial survey of Chinese tour companies had showed that trips to Thailand had not been cancelled.
The TAT has taken Chinese journalists and tour agents to the country`s eastern tourist destinations of Pattaya and Samet island, as well as the southern resort island of Phuket to see the situation first-hand, according to Mrs. Juthamas.
