The first group of businessmen from the Netherlands arrived in Guangzhou on Monday for the upcoming Chinese Export Commodities Fair (CECF), also known as Canton Fair, the Guangzhou Daily reported.

Thousands of businessmen from around the world are expected to arrive in Guangzhou over the next few days.

In recent years, most participants have left Guangzhou right after the fair. This year, however, most of them were planning to stay more than three days in the city, to attend the CECF, and also to inspect the Pearl River Delta`s investment environment, said travel agencies. This has given a much needed tourism boost to the region.

The 96th CECF will open in Guangzhou on Oct. 15. Statistics show 13,000 domestic companies have applied to take part in the exhibition, and as many as 300,000 exhibitors will attend the fair.

Canton Fair will be held at two separate exhibition centers, one in Liuhua Road and the other in Pazhou, Haizhou District.

The fair will be divided into two sessions with a four-day break from Oct. 21 to 24. The break is designed for exhibitors attending the second session to move into their booths.

The 96th Canton Fair will house 27,760 booths, with 15,091 in the new exhibition center in Pazhou, Haizhu District, and 12,669 in the old center.

After Cebit Hannover of Germany, CECF is the world`s second largest trade fair
