Business Events Sydney welcomes Kenes Group Ltd. and HUGO International to its International Advisory Board

BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith, welcomed the new appointments, adding that their decision to work with Sydney highlighted the city’s global appeal as a leading meeting destination, and clearly demonstrated the industry’s confidence in Sydney’s bright future.

Kenes Group Ltd. CEO Dan Rivlin and Human Genome Organisation (HUGO) International Director of Operations Shirlena Soh are the latest members to join Business Events Sydney’s (BESydney) International Advisory Board (IAB).

Announced to the global business event community during IMEX Frankfurt, the two new appointments help to ensure Sydney remains at the forefront of clients’ needs and continue to support the objectives of conferences and conventions today and tomorrow.

BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith, welcomed the new appointments, adding that their decision to work with Sydney highlighted the city’s global appeal as a leading meeting destination, and clearly demonstrated the industry’s confidence in Sydney’s bright future.

We are delighted to welcome industry leaders Dan Rivlin and Shirlena Soh to Sydney’s IAB and we look forward to working closely with them both over the coming months and years,” said Ms Lewis-Smith.

I have no doubt their insights, guidance and support will be invaluable. Knowing what’s important to our clients and being able to deliver tangible and long-lasting outcomes are a priority for our bureau. The IAB allows us to keep pace with the market’s changing needs and tailor our support to deliver the best outcomes for us all.”

Mr Rivlin, who will join BESydney for his first IAB Forum this week, added, “It’s both an honour and a privilege to be a member of the IAB. Sydney has long been a top-ranking destination for many Kenes clients and we have close ties in the conference community and with many local suppliers and providers. I am confident that together with my fellow board members and the increased importance of Sydney as a preferred meeting destination, we can help grow our client base and welcome them to beautiful Sydney.

Ms Soh, who will also attend her inaugural IAB meeting in Frankfurt, added, “I am most honoured and delighted to be part of the IAB for BESydney. Our annual Human Genome Meeting 2012 in Sydney was a huge success with more than 800 delegates attending the high-level meeting. The genomic scientific committees in Sydney were most impressive and the opportunities for both the local and international delegates to interact in one of the world’s most beautiful and liveable cities were phenomenal. I look forward to working with BESydney to showcase the high level of academic qualities and the city’s outstanding landmarks to other associations looking for a destination to host their meetings.”

Ms Lewis-Smith added, “We have so much great news to share with the world. Sydney is evolving at a rapid pace. The city is charging ahead with an ambitious development program, investing in physical and knowledge-based infrastructure that will ensure Sydney continues to shine as Australia’s creative, commercial and cultural capital and one of the world’s best places to connect, collaborate and innovate.”

Already, BESydney has secured more than 20 events for the new International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), which will open its doors from December next year. Most of these events, including Sibos and the World Congress of Accountants in 2018, fall within the NSW Government’s priority sectors.
