In August foreign visitor arrivals in Turkey has risen by 19,1%. Considerable increase (+11%) was observed in July as well. Accordingly aggregate visitor arrivals have given a positive result increasing + 2,2% for the first time since the beginning of the 2003 as against last year.

High growth rates at visitor figures from neighbor markets in August have been responsible for the boom. The visitor figures from Russian Federation increased by +46%, Greece + 75,4%, Bulgaria +17%, Iran +55% and from Syria +55%.

Turkey`s largest tourist market Germany has also performed well in August with a 21 % growth.

A considerable change has been seen in the mode of travel of the foreign visitors to Turkey. Arrivals by sea has risen at 34,8% and by land at 11,7%. On the other hand arrivals by air has dropped 2,1%. This recent noticeable change materialised mainly as a result of increases in Turkey`s share in neighbor markets.

Experts from tourist industry, expect stronger growth in the mode of travel by sea in the coming months. They say that expected growth can be realised owing to the recent reduction in passenger taxes and landing service fees for cruises.
