ATR has opened an office in Beijing in order to cover China, Mongolia, Korea and Japan. ATR is already present in China via Urumqi-based Xinjiang Airlines who have been operating five ATR 72-500 aircraft, delivered between 1997 and 1998. China has also been significantly involved for many years in the manufacturing of full sections of the ATR 72 fuselage and ATR 42 wings.

Jean-Michel Leonard, ATR Chief Executive Officer declares: The opening of this office in China reflects our will to strengthen our presence in this area which is witnessing record economic growth. China represents a very significant sales potential for our product line. ATR aircraft will provide an unmatchable mix of low operating costs and jet-like comfort for the Chinese market.

Patrick Devaux, heads this office and Franklin Tian, Chinese sales engineer, assists him.

ATR is already well established in the Asia Pacific area with a support and marketing office in Singapore and a Training centre in Bangkok. 88 aircraft are currently operated by 19 airlines in this area.

ATR is an equal partnership between EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company) and Finmeccanica/Alenia Aeronautica and is the world leader in the 50 to 70-seat turboprop market.
