Asian Trails Luzi Matzig takes a new role…

Is it the first step into a semi-retirement? Travel veteran Luzi Matzig is becoming chairman of Asian Trails and Kuoni Destination Management Asia Pacific and leaves the role of CEO to Laurent Kuenzle.

BANGKOK – Changes in management are in the air at Asian Trails, one of Southeast Asia’s leading DMC. Travel veteran Luzi Matzig is giving up his job as a CEO to become Chairman of Asian Trails and Kuoni Destination Management. The position will now be taken over by Laurent Kuenzle, who has been consequently appointed Asian Trails and Kuoni Destination Management Asia-Pacific’s new CEO. Both will assume their new responsibilities as of 1 January 2014.

Luzi Matzig was instrumental in the development of tourism to South-East Asia and founded Asian Trails in 1999, after many years at the head of Diethelm Travel. He developed Asian Trails into one of  the leading DMCs. His vision and leadership enabled Asian Trails to constantly  adapt to fast changing market conditions. In his new role as Chairman, Luzi Matzig will continue to advise the management team of Asian Trails with broad-based expertise in strategic and business development.

Laurent Kuenzle has been appointed Asian Trails and Kuoni Destination Management Asia-Pacific’s new CEO effective 1 January 2014. Laurent Kuenzle co-founded Asian Trails in 1999 and became the Group Managing Director in 2007. His expertise in operations and business development as well as his strategic thinking ensured Asian Trails’ profitable growth.

Asian Trails companies have established a network which covers all major Asian tourist destinations, with offices in all strategic inbound tourism centres throughout South East Asia. As the handling agent for major international tour operators, Asian Trails provides quality destination services to multi-lingual clients at competitive rates.

It is certain that a personality such as Matzig will continue to influence deeply the trade in Southeast Asia. However, it is also a sign that a new generation is slowly taking over…
