With over 500 delegates on hand at this year’s ACI World Annual Assembly, the merger of two of the fasting growing regions in airport traffic was completed and celebrated. The integrated Asia-Pacific region, which will be effective as of 1 January 2008, spans a vast geographical area – from the west coast of the US and Canada, to Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Middle East – and is characterised by great linguistic and cultural diversity.
Welcoming the culmination of the merger process launched in 2006, the President of the ACI Asia Pacific Region Max Moore-Wilton comments, “Such a large grouping within the family of ACI offers an immense opportunity for co-operation and exchange among airport members. It also presents a significant communication challenge for us in a region of such diversity and geographical dimension.”
To meet that business and communications challenge, the ACI regional office in Hong Kong, led by Regional Director Maggie Kwok, has launched several new initiatives including a revitalized and expanded ACI Asia-Pacific website, a member service called “We Care” to develop closer personal ties with each of the members and a regional magazine that will provide the latest news of airports across the region, reporting on success stories in airport management and development.
Ms Kwok says, “The merger creates the largest ACI region geographically, with members from 51 counties and territories. To help our members optimise the region’s enormous potential, we have expanded and relocated our regional office to the Airport World Trade Centre, at HK International Airport. In a time of dynamic business evolution, it is absolutely essential that we work in a spirit of partnership with our aviation partners, governments and regulators. They need to understand our needs and perspectives, and to that end, our new regional magazine and website will present airport viewpoints more fully to the industry and to the public.”
Mr. Moore-Wilton concludes, “The full integration of the Asia and Pacific regions is one of the most significant developments at ACI since its creation in 1991. We look forward to an exciting period of growth across the region, and the streamlined organisation and our new office will help us to maximise the business potential that lies ahead in a very positive framework.”
