JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur is rebranded and reborn in the heart of Bukit Bintang

The refreshed rooms and suites have been designed using modern materials and polished chrome, matched by stylish and tech-friendly amenities.

Singapore – The JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur opened its doors on 12 July 1997 and went on to set a new standard in hospitality and style for Kuala Lumpur – a modern and cosmopolitan city unique for its melting pot of cultures and traditions. The prime location of the hotel right in the heart of Bukit Bintang, the city’s central business and entertainment district, has made it a choice hotel for both residents and travellers – for business and leisure.

5 December marked a new chapter for this shining star as it celebrated the official re-launch after a complete year-long refurbishment. Officiating the auspicious occasion was Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Francis Yeoh, Managing Director of YTL Group of Companies, Dato’ Mark Yeoh, Executive Director of YTL Hotels and from Marriott International, Inc. – Arne Sorenson, President and Chief Executive Officer and Craig Smith, President and Managing Director of Asia Pacific.

Known as The Happening Hotel, the 578-room JW Marriott continues its legacy of embracing the brand’s values, offering guests warm hospitality, friendly service, comfortable accommodation and interactive culinary experiences. Guests are now greeted by a new sleek lobby of cool grey Emperado marble that beautifully reflects the magnificent cut crystal chandelier of six linked sparkling rings. The installation is an inviting introduction to a new, determinedly modern hotel, poised to deliver the classic JW experience of quiet luxury and intuitive service.

The refreshed rooms and suites have been designed using modern materials and polished chrome, matched by stylish and tech-friendly amenities. The generously proportioned bathrooms include a vanity counter, rainforest shower and a Japanese-inspired bathtub for that well-deserved indulgent soak. Nine brand new Cabana Poolside rooms on Level 6 have been added to the accommodation selection and suited for guests looking to spend quality leisure time in the city. Mere steps away from the inviting pool and new pool bar, guests can now simply stroll out of their rooms to enjoy a refreshing cocktail.

The JW Executive Lounge on Level 3 provides exclusive services and culinary presentations throughout the day and is ideal for guests who wish for a contemplative space to read or for an intimate meeting in one of the private meeting rooms.

The hotel’s location in the city centre has also made it a venue of choice for meetings, conferences and social events. 20 flexible meeting and function room options are available for events of varying nature and capacity. The addition of the 300-seater Bayu Ballroom uniquely located by the poolside includes a built-in LED screen on the stage. Weddings are a specialty of the JW Marriott, having hosted generations of weddings at its majestic and pillarless Mayang Sari Grand Ballroom the past two decades. A dedicated team personally customises each wedding to the last detail to ensure that the couple’s wedding dreams come true for them and their loved ones.

Wellness is an essential part of a guest’s stay and the rebranded Starhill Spa Village, by the world-renowned Spa Village brand, is here to ignite the senses through the power of scent. Over the years, Spa Village has been bringing wellness to the world, exploring and celebrating healing rituals, traditions and remedies of numerous cultures, resulting in an unparalleled collection of Spa Village aromatic oils. The curated collection comes together here in a trifecta of bliss as the spa offers guests the opportunity to design their personalised experience using these remedial scents in an eclectic combination for a delightful sensory journey. Facilities at the spa include a 24-hour gym with comprehensive Technogym equipment, a steam room, sauna, whirlpool and a cool plunge pool.

The hotel’s restaurant Shanghai, is the only Shanghainese hotel restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. Helmed by Shanghai-born Chinese Executive Chef Wong Wing Yeuk, the restaurant has a delectable curation of over 100 vibrant and distinctive dishes. Shanghai was conceptualised by the renowned Soh Chit Yuen restaurant, inspired by the famous Snow Garden restaurant chain and the Soh Chit Association of Hong Kong. The restaurant has also undergone a complete transformation and emerged with a touch of modern Chinese glamour. A new bar in the restaurant welcomes diners and is just perfect for those who desire a Shanghai-themed cocktail concocted right before them as a prelude to their Shanghainese culinary journey. Shanghai serves classic, exquisite dishes and dim sum that can also be savoured at leisure in one of the four private dining rooms.

The dining and entertainment offerings at JW Marriott extends into the connecting Feast Village Starhill Gallery; offering an unparalleled dining experience and a stunning array of culinary offerings from Asian to Mediterranean across 11 restaurants. The meandering alleyways of the rustic, multi-ethnic Village and the multicoloured ‘time tunnel’ take diners and visitors on a journey of discovery and wonderment of the finest details in design and iconic paraphernalia. Some of the city’s top bars and restaurants are conveniently situated within the complex.

The hotel’s integration with Kuala Lumpur’s retail icon of taste and style, Starhill Gallery, provides guests with seamless access to international luxury brands. It is a gallery of rich experiences with 330,000 square feet of retail and dining space. Starhill Gallery is amongst the top shopping destinations in Malaysia, providing a standard of privacy and exclusivity rarely seen in large shopping complexes. It houses the largest number of global luxury brands under one roof, some of which are in Malaysia for the first time. It is also the largest global watch retailer in the world with 70 luxurious brands.
