X2 launch luxury resort in Chiang Mai

X2 Chiang Mai Riverside Resort showcases contemporary heritage and eco-inspired elegance amidst forest of ancient Tamarind trees on the banks of the Ping River.

CHIANG MAI, Thailand – X2 [CrossTo] Chiang Mai Riverside Resort is now welcoming guests and elevating the levels of comfort, style and service offered in Thailand’s popular cultural capital.

Designed to honour Chiang Mai’s traditional Lanna history, while also celebrating the city’s present-day appeal, the 30-key resort boasts a prime waterfront location and offers spacious luxury accommodation, a stunning rooftop pool and constantly evolving menus of world-class cuisine, especially created by a consulting Michelin-starred chef from France.

Taking Chiang Mai’s iconic Wat Umong as inspiration – a forest temple known for its unique tunnels and meditation spaces – and also referencing Chiang Mai’s ancient walled city, the distinctive new resort seamlessly blends old and new, traditional and contemporary, and offers guests a unique experience that salutes the past while being undeniably modern.

The property was built on the site of an old rice winery and we actually unearthed some antique remnants during construction,” says Ewan Taylor, General manager, X2 [CrossTo] Chiang Mai Riverside Resort, who has opened some of Asia’s most renowned boutique hotels in destinations such as Sri Lanka and Malaysia. “Great effort went into preserving the natural features of the estate, which included a dramatic row of 120-year-old tamarind trees, all of which remain standing as part of the hotel’s unique character.”

Guests at X2 [CrossTo] Chiang Mai Riverside Resort have a choice of stylish, well appointed rooms and suites ranging from 50 to 177.5 square metres in size and each boasting subtle Thai décor touches and red brick walls to reflect the Lanna architectural influence. Two Tamarind Suites overlook the resort’s green inner courtyard, while 20 Riverfront Suites feature balconies with river views. The six Grand Suite River View include a separate indoor seating area and the two Pool Suite River View open onto their own gardens with 10-metre private pools.

All the accommodation options come with an impressive range of facilities and amenities, with comfort spring beds, 42-inch 4K Ultra HD LED Smart TVs, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, coffee machines and electron charging stations. Those staying in a coveted Pool Suite River View also enjoy a complimentary mini bar, oversized bathtub for two, and a secluded garden seating area facing the river.

When they are not relaxing on their furnished balcony, guests can stroll along a peaceful riverside path right in front of the resort, go kayaking on the river, or head up to the rooftop, which offers a fully equipped gym, generous lap pool complete with sunken loungers, a kids pool and deep water overlooking the property’s grand tamarind trees and river frontage. Open exclusively to resort guests, the intimate yet spacious rooftop space also has a bar and provides the perfect place for a cocktail while watching the sun sink behind the iconic Doi Suthep mountain range.

Chiang Mai’s history, its emphasis on the arts, laidback way of life and eclectic cuisine continues to lure travellers from around the world,” adds Ewan Taylor. “We are confident that X2 [CrossTo] Chiang Mai Riverside Resort will raise the city’s profile even higher by adding a real sense of international style and sophistication to the riverside.”

Also set to push the envelope is the resort’s Oxygen Dining Room, the first restaurant in Chiang Mai to boast consultation from a Michelin-starred chef. Nestled beneath the leafy tamarind trees and facing the Mae Ping River, the contemporary glass-house restaurant offers a completely fresh concept for in-house guests and outside diners.

French-born consultant chef Nicolas Isnard’s creative interpretations of Thai and International dishes lean heavily on fresh local, seasonal ingredients, with dishes created to meet the highest French culinary standards. Known for his Michelin-starred restaurant L’Auberge de la Charme in Dijon, France, Chef Nicolas’ inventive menu is expertly prepared and exquisitely plated by the restaurant’s Executive Chef Alexandre Demard and his team. Oxygen Dining Room is already making a name for itself as a go-to fine dining restaurant in Chiang Mai drawing guests, local residents and discerning diners from Bangkok keen to try the exquisite dishes on the menu.

Thai cuisine offers some of the most thrilling flavours, textures and ingredients in the world,” says Chef Nicolas. “At Oxygen Dining Room we’ve created a very special space where diners can discover a new level of Thai gastronomy blending time honoured Thai flavours with refined French preparation techniques – all in a setting that rivals some of the best restaurants in the world.”

Another unique food and beverage offering at X2 [CrossTo] Chiang Mai Riverside Resort is the cosmopolitan H20 Water Bar & Tea Lounge, which provides an elegant refuge with a selection of imported and infused waters, an extensive loose leaf tea selection, and a menu of delectable desserts created by the restaurant team.

As the first X2 Resort in Chiang Mai, we’re proud to bring our renowned hospitality brand’s signature style and service to the region and fully expect the resort to become known as one of Chiang Mai’s leading boutique hotels,” added Mr. Taylor.

X2 [CrossTo] Chiang Mai Riverside Resort is conveniently located within easy access of all that Chiang Mai has to offer. Just a 20-minute drive from Chiang Mai International Airport, the resort is 10 minutes from the centre of the Old City, known for its small winding lanes, myriad temples and Sunday Night Walking Street, and only nine minutes to the famous Night Bazaar.

To mark the opening of the resort, X2 [CrossTo] Chiang Mai Riverside is offering a series of attractive promotional offers to unveil a new hospitality icon in the Rose of The North.
