Tigerair australia commences new flights between Hobart and the Gold Coast

The airline will fly four weekly return services between the two destinations (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays).

Tigerair Australia will commence flying the only direct low cost service between Hobart and the Gold Coast, providing a convenient and affordable air travel option between the two popular destinations.

Tigerair will operate four weekly return flights between the ‘Apple Isle’ and the Gold Coast on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The new services have been scheduled to suit the airline’s core market of budget and leisure travellers; ensuring customers will enjoy more time at their destination on arrival, with flights scheduled to depart from Hobart at 8.50am (AEDT) and arrive in the Gold Coast at 10.20am (AEST). The return flights are scheduled to depart from Gold Coast Airport at 10:50am (AEST) and arrive in Hobart at 2:30pm (AEDT).

Tigerair Australia Head of Communications, Vanessa Regan , and the airline’s mascot ‘Toby’ will be on-board the inaugural Hobart-Gold Coast service (TT852) this morning, with the aircraft to be greeted by a ceremonial water cannon salute upon arrival at Gold Coast Airport.

Tigerair is also adding four additional return services on the airline’s existing Melbourne-Hobart route from today to cater for growing demand. In total, the sixteen additional return services being launched will provide close to 3,000 additional visitor seats through Hobart Airport each week.

Tigerair Australia Head of Communications Vanessa Regan says the airline is confident that the new services will be warmly embraced by Tasmanians and Gold Coasters alike.

As the only low cost and direct offering on this route and with optimal times for leisure travellers, Tigerair’s new services between Hobart and Gold Coast  provide the most affordable and convenient connectivity between the two destinations.

“These services will provide a welcome boost for tourism in both cities and have arrived just in time for the busy summer holiday period and the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April 2018.”

Tasmania’s Premier, Will Hodgman, said that Tasmania is rightly Australia’s must-see destination and today’s first flight of a new air service linking the Gold Coast and Hobart is further proof.

Tigerair’s new service links Tasmania into one of the fastest growing areas of Australia and will open the door for new opportunities in our local tourism and hospitality sectors.

“This is yet another vote of confidence in Tasmania and I would like to thank Tigerair for their continuing support.  I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Tourism Tasmania, the Hobart Airport and the Gold Coast Airport.”

Hobart Airport CEO Sarah Renner said the new route would help drive the thriving tourism industry and promote further economic growth in both states.

We are proud to welcome this new route which will increase interstate and international visitation and allow easier access for leisure and business travellers working between Queensland and Tasmania,” Ms Renner said.

“People can jump on a plane in Hobart in the morning and be relaxing by their hotel pool in the Gold Coast by lunch. It’s another great addition to direct destinations linked to Hobart at a time when we are enjoying outstanding growth.”

Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Marion Charlton said the establishment of the service brought together two key Australian tourism destinations.

The Gold Coast and Hobart are increasingly popular travel destinations and this new, direct link has arrived just in time the summer peak,” she said.

This is a welcome addition to Tigerair’s existing Sydney and Melbourne services.

“Tigerair’s first Australian service was from Melbourne to the Gold Coast 10 years ago, so we’re very pleased to see their commitment to our city bolstered with this new route.”

Gold Coast Tourism CEO Martin Winter said the timing of the new direct service to the Gold Coast could not be better ahead of the festive and peak holiday season.

There is a tangible energy that lives here on the Gold Coast and we invite holidaymakers to experience how we have evolved. Authentic experiences from our coastal culture, to hinterland escapes and our blossoming dining scene work in harmony to forge lasting memories, and will appeal by contrast to Tasmania’s own personality.

“Tigerair’s commitment to the route is highly commendable and has the added bonus of being super affordable,” said Mr Winter.
