Dr Jennifer Cronin, President Wharf Hotels, awarded Mentor of The Year

ACI initiated a digital campaign for people to vote for their preferred mentor, one who inspires creativity, originality and encourages talent growth.

Hong Kong – Wharf Hotels is proud to announce that its President Dr Jennifer Cronin has been recognised as Mentor of The Year 2017, by Singapore-based ACI HR Solutions Ltd. An award-winning specialist recruitment firm dedicated to the travel, tourism, hospitality and lifestyle industries, ACI’s Founder and CEO, Mr Andrew Chan announced the award during ITB Asiain Singapore. Cronin is the first person to be credited with this newly created accolade.

ACI initiated a digital campaign for people to vote for their preferred mentor, one who inspires creativity, originality and encourages talent growth. Eight industry leaders were nominated with voting taking place over three weeks from 4 to 25 October 2017, resulting in Cronin winning ACI’s Mentor of The Year 2017 title.

Cronin was appointed President of Wharf Hotels, formerly Marco Polo Hotels, in February 2016 following the role of Vice President Sales and Marketing when she joined the group in 2014. Her initial remit was to launch the new luxury hotel brand, Niccolo Hotels, where she was tasked with opening the first hotel within the luxury portfolio, Niccolo Chengdu, in 2015. The brand has since been internationally acclaimed setting the benchmark for the brand’s collection.

Cronin’s current focus includes the expansion of the group’s portfolio of hotels in the region, the openings of highly anticipated Hong Kong flagship property, The Murray, Hong Kong, a Niccolo Hotel, along with Niccolo Changsha and Niccolo Suzhou in the next 24 months.

At ACI HR Solutions, we have been advocating a change for managers, particularly in the hospitality industry, from traditional top down management style to better understanding and grooming future leaders through mentorship. With macro changes in the human capital landscape over the years, it is important for organisations to engage staff and retain best talents in order to fuel growth. We congratulate Dr Cronin on this well-deserved recognition,” said Chan.

Juliette Lim, Vice President Human Resources for Wharf Hotels said, “We believe in an empowering culture at Wharf Hotels, where associates and leaders take accountability in what they do and how they do their best. Mentoring becomes an instrumental part of our DNA in ensuring our associates’ success, whether it is taking on a new role or working on a new project. The success of our Management Trainee Program is testament to how we have used mentoring effectively to engage our trainees, providing them with guidance and support to complete tasks and achieve goals throughout their learning journey. We have Dr Cronin as our role model in mentoring with her enormous passion to share, guide and helping others to succeed. She continues to inspire us every day with her positivity and enthusiasm to do more – for the company, the hotels and the people she leads.

Cronin graduated with a Doctorate of Philosophy in 2016 from Bond University basing her PhD research on “Empowering Readiness; influencing crisis management success outcomes“. She was awarded the 2013 Australian Postgraduate Award, conferred by the Commonwealth’s Department of Innovation, Industry, Science & Research, awarded to students on the basis of academic achievement, proven research ability and research potential. Recently, Cronin was presented with Bond University’s most prestigious alumni accolade; the Robert Stable Alumni Medal, for her exceptional achievement in bridging academia and industry. 2016 culminated with Cronin receiving the Asia Pacific BMW Corporate Hotelier of the Year Award.
