Tigerair Australia announces direct low cost route between Hobart and Gold Coast

Tigerair to commence up to four weekly return services between Hobart and Gold Coast (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays) from 7 December 2017.

Tigerair Australiaannounced a new route between Hobart and Gold Coast, providing the only direct, low cost travel option between the two popular tourism destinations.

From Thursday 7 December Tigerair will operate four weekly return services between the Island state and Gold Coast on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. At the same time, the airline will also add four additional return services on the existing popular Melbourne – Hobart route to meet growing demand.

In total, sixteen additional return services will provide close to 3,000 additional visitor seats through Hobart Airport weekly from 7 December.

The new flights are perfectly timed for leisure travellers, departing Hobart at 8:50am (AEDT) to arrive into the Gold Coast at 10:20am (AEDT). The return services depart Gold Coast Airport at 10:50am (AEDT) and arrive into Hobart at 2:30pm (AEDT).

Tigerair Australia Acting CEO Peter Wilson flew into Hobart Airport this morning on Tigerair’s Melbourne to Hobart service, to celebrate the new route announcement alongside The Honourable Will Hodgman MP, Premier of Tasmania and Minister for Tourism and Events and Hobart Airport Interim CEO Matt Cocker.

This new route provides the only direct, low cost link between two very popular travel destinations providing faster, cheaper access to both cities for tourist, budget and leisure travellers.

“Not only are we providing the only direct, low cost services between Tasmania and Gold Coast, we’re also adding more services on our existing popular Melbourne – Hobart due to popular demand.

“Our great value fares grow and stimulate air travel in this country. These new flights launching in December provide a welcome boost for tourism in both cities, covering the upcoming peak summer holiday travel period and the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in April.

“This is great news for Tasmanian tourism, for the local economy and most of all, for consumers,” said Tigerair Acting CEO Peter Wilson.

The Honourable Will Hodgman MP, Premier of Tasmania welcomed today’s announcement opening the door for new opportunities for the local tourism and hospitality sectors.

Tasmania is rightly Australia’s must-see destination and today’s announcement of a new air service linking the Gold Coast and Hobart is further proof.

“This is yet another vote of confidence in Tasmania and I would like to thank Tigerair for their continuing support. I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Tourism Tasmania, the Hobart Airport and the Gold Coast Airport.

Hobart Airport Interim CEO Matt Cocker said the new route would help drive the thriving Tasmanian tourism industry and promote further economic growth in both states.

We are proud to welcome a new route which will increase interstate and international visitation and allow easier access for business travellers working between Queensland and Tasmania,” Mr Cocker said.

Gold Coast Airport Chief Executive Officer Chris Mills said the commencement of Hobart services boosted the Gold Coast’s connectivity to a growing tourist hotspot.

Tasmania is an increasingly popular destination for tourists and the Gold Coast is a well-established holiday location, so we expect this service will be embraced by the leisure market,” he said.

It is great to see Tigerair strengthen its commitment to the Gold Coast and we look forward to welcoming Tasmanians here for some surf, sand and sun this summer.”
