Worldwide promotional campaign for “Hangzhou, Inspiring New Connections” held grandly

The event is a global promotion campaign designed to make the world aware of Hangzhou's economic and commercial landscape, and the opportunities that have become available as a result of the heightened visibility of Hangzhou as an attractive destination for meetings and conventions following the success of the city's hosting the G20 Summit and in advance of its hosting of the 2022 Asian Games.

HANGZHOU, China – Organized by Hangzhou Tourism Commission, the promotion campaign event for “Hangzhou, Inspiring New Connections” was successfully held simultaneously in Hangzhou and Paris on September 12th and 13th.

MICE industry leaders at the event included France-based Refeel Events cofounder and director Orianne Pages, Germany-based TUI Group MICE director Wen Xiang, Belgium-based MIM and Headquarters magazine editor-in-chief Marcel Vissers, Business Traveller Asia-Pacific editor Craig Bright, Grand China MICE Holding vice president Han Minghua, China Public Relations Association executive director Guo Lei, MCI Group (Shanghai) Meetings & Incentives general manager Cai Yegui and Bravolinks Integrated marketing director Zhao Wenxin.

The event attendees took in the unique cultural resources of Hangzhou, including silk weaving, yachting and fan painting as well as a performance of Eduring Memories of Hangzhou, and participated in several “hands on” activities, among them, Longjing tea picking and yacht racing. No matter whether it was having a go at knitting silk on the weaving machines in the China National Silk Museum, taking a leisurely boat ride on West Lake on the Lanyi, the same vessel that hosted the world leaders who attended the G20 Summit, picking tea in the Longjing tea garden, making small steamed buns, or sailing on Xiang Lake, each attendee came back feeling relaxed and with a fresh and positive impression of Hangzhou. In addition, the attendees visited two of Hangzhou’s flagship firms, Alibaba and Hikvision, where, they received in-depth tours of the premises. On the evening of September 13, the attendees all participated in the grand closing ceremony held in Hangzhou International Expo Center, jointly lighting the LED lightbox specially set up to be representative of Hangzhou MICE. At the dinner following the ceremony, conference organizers from different countries engaged in discussions and exchanges of opinions with local representatives from Hangzhou’s MICE sector, with many conference organizers expressing their willingness to partner with Hangzhou.

The event simultaneously took place in a second venue in Paris, France. Paris was ranked as the world’s leading conference destination in 2016 by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), as the organizations that service the sector there have years if not decades of experience under their belts. In Paris, the Hangzhou Tourism Commission set up the silk decorated Hangzhou Mobile Meeting Room as well as the Hangzhou Reception Room. The mobile meeting room is a specially equipped trailer that travelled the streets of Paris and parked in several of the business and commercial districts in and around the center of the city, where they showcased Hangzhou’s MICE resources, while the reception room was set up next to the Centre Georges Pompidou where passers-by could sample Hangzhou’s unique cuisine while sipping cups of Longjing green tea. The reception room added, for a few days, a new and unique element to the Parisian cityscape.

The event is a global promotion campaign designed to make the world aware of Hangzhou’s economic and commercial landscape, and the opportunities that have become available as a result of the heightened visibility of Hangzhou as an attractive destination for meetings and conventions following the success of the city’s hosting the G20 Summit and in advance of its hosting of the 2022 Asian Games. The two events meaningfully contribute to the city becoming a top international MICE destination with a distinct and increasingly influential MICE brand. With its abundant and unique resources, the highest in standards when it comes to the quality of its services and a flair for innovation, Hangzhou’s MICE sector is expected to continue attracting wide attention globally and become the destination of choice for more international meeting organizers.
