Queensland visitor experiences on show in Japan

Japan is a resurging growth market for Queensland with 202,000 Japanese travellers visiting Queensland in the year ending June 2017, an 8.8 per cent increase on the previous year.

A wide range of Queensland tourism experiences have been showcased in Japan this week as part of a Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) trade mission involving 22 businesses from across the state.

Tourism and Events Queensland Chief Executive Officer Leanne Coddington said the Queensland on Tour Japan mission was an opportunity to meet with 270 Japanese tourism trade representatives in Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo.

Queensland on Tour Japan provides a platform for Queensland tourism businesses to market their experiences, explore new business opportunities, network and strengthen relationships with key Japanese tourism trade partners such as wholesale and retail travel agents,” Ms Coddington said.

Japan is a resurging growth market for Queensland with 202,000 Japanese travellers visiting Queensland in the year ending June 2017, an 8.8 per cent increase on the previous year,” she said.

This growth has seen Japan return as one of Queensland’s largest international markets – third in terms of visitor spend, with expenditure increasing 18.2 per cent to $430.3 million in the same period,

Our aim is to build on this momentum through the staging of this trade mission which will raise the profile of Queensland’s unique range of visitor experiences and importantly, establish and strengthen connections within the market.

Ms Coddington said the Queensland on Tour Japan mission aligned with the strategic priorities outlined in the Queensland Asia Tourism Strategy 2016-2025 to establish, develop and grow partnerships with active trade agents in priority cities.

Our focus is on making Queensland the leading Australian destination for Asian travellers,” she said.

We are committed to the Japan market and we value our relationships with trade partners who are crucial in helping us achieve growth from this market,

I thank the Queensland operators who are participating on the mission for their commitment to the market and to promoting Queensland to this valuable market, and I look forward to hearing about the positive outcomes of the mission.
