KAYAK reveals the next 10 destinations to visit before the masses

The report looks at destinations outside of the usual top-searched destinations*, focusing instead on the holiday hotspots with the greatest increase in interest among Singaporean travellers.

SINGAPORE – Repeatedly travelling to your all-time favourite destinations is like never stepping out of your comfort zone. Instead of fighting your way through the crowds of tourists in the ‘most-instagrammable’ places, how about switching your attention to some less-talked-about destinations before everybody else catches on?

KAYAK, the world’s leading travel search engine, has analysed data from millions of searches to gain insights into its users’ interests and where they are heading. With its release of the KAYAK ‘Better-Now-Than-Later’ Report (‘The Report’) for travel trendsetters in Asia Pacific, the travel experts reveal the next 10 destinations that deserve a top spot in your year-end and 2018 travel checklist.

Amy Wei, Senior Director, APAC of KAYAK, said: “We often see different groups of friends posting about the same destinations at the same time on social media, but there are many other must-go destinations that are equally Instagram-worthy. KAYAK is here to help travellers discover destinations that they never even knew they wanted to visit, and with this report, we hope we can help you uncover your next best holiday hotspot”.

The report shows that Hobart in Australia, while only ranking as the 83rd most-popular destination overall for Singaporean travellers, ranked first amongst the emerging trendiest destinations, registering a year-on-year growth of 81%, followed by Athens in Greece (+70% year-on-year) and Nanjing in China (+56% year-on-year).

Other destinations also appearing in the report’s ten must-visit destinations are Hyderabad, Kaohsiung and Madrid, to name a few. Many of these destinations are ones that you’ve probably heard about from your friends and relatives – they’re just not plastered all over your Instagram account just yet.

Wei further note, “We analysed our search data to find these aspirational destinations, but there are many other destinations that are accessible and worth exploring by travellers. With our tools such as Explore and KAYAK Trips, travellers can easily find their next destinations based on the specific budget, travel period, weather, and other preferences.”

How about other Asia Pacific travellers – where are they starting to explore? The report also shows information for travellers from the other 11 markets in the region**. While the top three trending destinations – Saipan, Macau, and Nagoya, may sound familiar to Singaporean travellers, the next four may spark your wanderlust – Vladivostok, Ulan Bator, Kota Kinabalu, and Havana.

*The report filtered out the top 30 most searched destinations by Singaporean travellers on KAYAK.sg during the search period of 01/01/2017 – 31/08/2017 for any travel dates in 2017, and ranked the rest of the destinations by highest year-on-year growth on searches.
**The Asia Pacific analysis is based on KAYAK’s own search data across its 12 APAC locales, including (in alphabetical order) Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.
