Lufthansa A350-900 arrives at Hong Kong International Airport

Upon arrival at Hong Kong International Airport it was greeted with a welcome ceremony and water salute.

Lufthansa Airlines is pleased to announce the arrival of its new AirbusA350-900 in Hong Kong. Starting from 13 September, Lufthansa will serve flights between Hong Kong and Munich with this ultra-modern aircraft.

Mr. Malte Haut, General Manager Sales Hong Kong, South China and Macao of Lufthansa Group Airlines, said: “Ever since entering the Hong Kong market, we made sure to offer the latest services and products here. So after the B748 and the A380, I am happy to upgrade the service to Munich with the latest addition to our fleet, the Lufthansa A350. This also marks the start of our Munich initiative to strengthen our product offer to Munich Airport with Europe’s best transfer experience. Terminal 2 is operated by Lufthansa and Munich Airport and is rated the best airport in Europe.”

Due to the flight duration of 11 hours, the route is served by two aircrafts flying alternatively. The A350’s maiden flight to Hong Kong took off on 12 September at 22:30 and was welcomed for the first time in Hong Kong at 15:35 local time on 13 September. Upon arrival at Hong Kong International Airport it was greeted with a welcome ceremony and water salute.

With the A350-900, a state-of-the-art newcomer has joined the fleet at Lufthansa. The A350-900 has space for 293 passengers – 48 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy and 224 in Economy Class. The aircraft is currently the most advanced and most environmentally-friendly aircraft in the world. It uses 25 percent less kerosene, produces 25 percent fewer emissions and is significantly quieter than comparable types of aircraft. Lufthansa has placed orders for a total of 25 ultra-modern jet aircraft of this type.

Self-service area in Business Class
Lufthansa is offering its Business Class passengers a service which can be used at any time between the regular meal slots. In a newly-designed self-service area, passengers are able to simply help themselves to snacks and drinks. They can of course still choose to order drinks from their seats from the cabin crew staff if they prefer.

New seats in Economy Class
The A350-900 also has more comfortable seating for passengers in the Economy Class section. The seats, which have been supplied by manufacturer Zodiac Seats, have special ergonomically-formed seat upholstery, and there is also more space for the storage of personal effects. Various shades of blue have been chosen for the seating, gradually getting lighter towards the center of the cabin.

On-board entertainment
The on-board entertainment system on the A350-900 is also leading edge in its range of options. For the first time, passengers can make a selection from the on-board program from home before setting off and can then add their favorite items to a playlist. To make use of this facility, passengers simply need to download the “Lufthansa Companion App” onto their own tablet or mobile phone. The on-board program is available up to six weeks in advance. Once on board, passengers then synchronize their personal favorite playlists with the screen in front of the seat, and they also have the option of using their own mobile device as a second screen.

Arrive at your destination feeling better rested – more comfortable cabin pressure and an innovative lighting concept
At 5.6 meters wide, the cabin of the new Airbus is more spacious than comparable models of aircraft, giving passengers the feeling of having a more generous amount of space. Thanks to the particular construction of the A350-900, cabin pressure during the flight is more comfortable, meaning that passengers reach their destination feeling better rested. The cabin pressure will be similar to the air pressure at a height of 1,800 meters instead of 2,400 meters in a comparable aircraft. The effect is further enhanced through a novel LED lighting system. As the first airline worldwide to do so, Lufthansa is using a range of different light settings on board the A350-900, which are designed to fit in with the day and night-time rhythm of the passengers.

Passengers on the Lufthansa A350-900 from Hong Kong to Munich will arrive at a modern airport with 5 stars awarded by Skytrax in 2017. With an extensive network of destinations in Europe and connection time as short as 30 minutes within one terminal, a seamless travel experience is guaranteed. For those who want to stay longer, Munich is not only an important southern German business hub, but it also offers a diverse range of memorable experiences and beautiful sceneries for tourists, like the annual Oktoberfest or the Neuschwanstein Castle nearby.
