Junior Chamber International and the State of Sarawak prepare to host global institutions and leaders

Theodore Koumelis - 08 September 2017, 00:09

Junior Chamber International (JCI) has partnered with the State of Sarawak to convene the International Summit on Peace, which will focus on peacemaking efforts around the world and commit participants to a resolution in order to further the cause of world peace.

The city of Kuching is preparing for the arrival of dozens of global figures and representatives of the world’s most influential organisations for the International Summit on Peace, taking place in Sarawak from September 6th – 8th 2017.

Junior Chamber International (JCI) has partnered with the State of Sarawak to convene the Summit, which will focus on peacemaking efforts around the world and commit participants to a resolution in order to further the cause of world peace.

Key speakers include the Chief Minister of Sarawak, H.E. President Goodluck Jonathan, former President of Nigeria (2010–2015), MSNBC anchor Richard Lui, recording artist and former child soldier Emmanuel Jal and senior representation from Al Jazeera+, UNDP, JICA, and peacemaking organizations around the world.

The Summit comes at a time of heightened global tensions, with increased volatility in the Middle East and on the Korean peninsula. As governments around the world struggle to come to terms with this new geopolitical reality, it is vital that civil society comes together. The International Summit on Peace will provide an international platform for dialogue, and hopes to inspire people around the world to come together and work towards long-term peace.

We are extremely proud to partner with the State of Sarawak, one of the most astonishingly diverse and peaceful places in South East Asia, to create a forum to work towards that most elusive but essential goal- world peace,” said Arrey Obenson, Secretary General of JCI.

"JCI has worked for over 100 years to bring young citizens together and show that with dialogue and hard work, anything is possible. Our International Summit on Peace hopes to create a legacy of togetherness and propose innovative policies and methods which civil society can put into practice for world peace”.
