Vicky Karantzavelou - 10 July 2017, 00:14

BANGSAEN42 Marathon was founded with the determination to organize a Marathon distance race that reaches world standards.

MICE & Communication with Chonburi's Saensuk Municipality gears up to hold the "BANGSAEN42 Marathon" under the theme of "The Passion of World-Class Marathon" on Sunday, 19 November at BANGSAEN beach, Chonburi. The organizer is aiming for the event to be certified as IAAF Gold Label Road Race Standards and is looking to attract Thai and international runners to join in this unmissable event! New innovation developed in Thailand will also be utilized to make Thai running events reach world standards.

Mr Rut Jiroajvanichakorn, Managing Director of MICE & Communication reveals that the idea behind BANGSAEN42 occurred after MICE organized the first BANGSAEN21 in 2015 when many runners suggested that they should hold a Marathon distance race. Since then, for two years, MICE has been in preparation for this race and thus "BANGSAEN42 Marathon" will be held by MICE and the Saensuk Municipality under the theme of "The Passion of World-Class Marathon" on Sunday, 19 November, 2017 from 3.30 am to 10.30 am at BANGSAEN Beach, Chonburi.

He adds that BANGSAEN42 was founded with the determination to organize a Marathon distance race that reaches world standards. MICE aims for the event to be certified as the IAAF Gold Label Road Race in 2022 and to become the largest race event that Thai and international runners cannot miss which will be on the same level as the Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon and Berlin Marathon. What runners will experience at BANGSAEN42 is the high standards found in international races according to IAAF standards, from certified distance from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) as well as race organization certification from the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) and the Athletic Association of Thailand (AAT). Roads will be closed throughout the race, emergency medical units as well as doctors will be on standby as well as emergency vehicles. Moreover, a 100,000-baht medical insurance will be made for all runners while anti-doping test will be carried out to comply with IAAF Label Road Race.

A strict cut-off system will also be put to use: 7 hours will be the cut-off time for the race which with will have 5 checkpoints. Should runners fail to arrive within the cut-off time, they will not finish according to standards set by international races for the runner's own safety.

Another highlight of this race will be new technology such as the e-Slip system that will report race results via SMS to each runner immediately after reaching the finish line. Moreover, a facial recognition system developed by a group of Thai programmers called ThaiRun will be used to facilitate the race from determining which runners will receive prizes to searching for runners' photographs.

"BANGSAEN42 Marathon will be Thailand's first running event with a single distance. The route will start from the Beach Road at BANGSAEN Heritage Convention Center to BANGSAEN roundabout, then to Chonburi's new landmark, the 84th Anniversary Bridge, pass Angsila Market, the Shrine for Nezha's Tai Tzu, Khao Sam Muk, Laem Tan, and along to beach to the finish line.

We have partnered with two international sporting brands to create our race shirts. The event's race shirt will be produced by PUMA while all runners reaching the finish line before cut-off will receive another shirt from CEP. The finisher's medal is made with premium-grade metal from a world-class medal-producing facility and is designed with the idea of starry night which glows in the dark. Another highlight that runners will experience is the special prize for Top 100 runners for both male and female which will be revealed soon."

Mr Narongchai Khunpluem, Mayor of Saensuk Municipality says "The people of BANGSAEN are very glad to welcome runners again and we are honored that the Beach Road and the BANGSAEN community has become an international spot for racing. The BANGSAEN21 race which has been held here for 2 consecutive years has had a positive effect for the community, not only on the economic side but the people of BANGSAEN is very much in support of the race. They have pitched in with cleaning prior to the race and cheering on runners throughout the route.

For this event, BANGSAEN42 Marathon will be held on a very special course which includes the 84th Anniversary Bridge, a new landmark of the province which has beautiful surrounding, moreover, runners will experience the breathtaking views of the sea at BANGSAEN, pass through Khao Sam Muk, the Shrine for Nezha's Tai Tzu, Angsila Market and taste local food such as BANGSAEN Yellow Chicken and Bamboo Rice Shots at the finish line.

Dr Channarong Suhongsa, Director of the Provincial Office of Tourism and Sports of Chonburi says that, "Chonburi province is glad to support BANGSAEN42 Marathon which is in line with the province's policy in organizing sport tourism events. BANGSAEN is in the perfect location, not far from both Bangkok and the airport, and it is also the gateway to the east and other tourist attractions.
