Visit Nakhon Si Thammarat campaign: Nakhon Si Awesome

The “Nakhon Si Awesome” marketing campaign has been introduced by the Nakhon Si Thammarat provincial authorities to showcase the province as a modern and attractive destination with much to offer to visitors.

Bangkok – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is inviting local and international tourists to visit the historic Thai southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, and enjoy a huge range of local attractions and experiences under a new “Nakhon Si Awesome” marketing campaign.
 
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor said “Nakhon Si Thammarat is an amazing destination with a wide variety of tourist attractions and activities that will enchant people of all ages. There is not only stunning natural scenery, but also interesting historical and archaeological sites, charming local ways of life and authentic cuisine, unique to the area. It’s really worth visiting this lovely area of Thailand.

The word ‘awesome’ is used to describe the best attractions of the province in six distinctive categories.
 
Awesome Civilisation: The architectural and cultural heritage of Nakhon Si Thammarat including Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, the province’s most important temple and a nominated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here people can enjoy the annual Hae Pha Khuen That festival, which takes place on Makha Puja Day when the stupa of the temple is wrapped in cloth by locals to make merit. This event attracts Buddhists from all over the world, making it an amazing spectacle to see.
 
Awesome Handicrafts: Nakhon Si Thammarat is recognised as a land of high-quality arts and crafts, which are known for their exquisite craftsmanship and are still handmade using centuries-old methods of production. Popular souvenirs include Nielloware and silver products and the famous Pha Yok Mueang Nakhon cloth, which has gold and silver thread woven in to create a lustrous texture. Tourists can see these arts and crafts being made in the traditional way and help keep this amazing heritage alive.
 
Awesome Green: Nakhon Si Thammarat’s natural attractions include Krung Ching Waterfall and Khao Luang National Park with its stunning views as well as the lovely beaches of Khanom and Hin Ngam that are being highlighted as must-visit destinations, as they are unknown by many tourists and offer the perfect getaway from the crowds.
 
Awesome Lifestyle: Visitors can get a taste of a unique local lifestyle and live amidst nature in the coastal town of Ban Laem in Tha Sala district. Here locals lead a simple life in harmony with nature, and tourists can take part in traditional activities; such as, making bird cages or weaving palm leaves to make household items or even try a natural mud spa treatment in the sea.
 
Awesome Knowledge: The Pak Phanang River Basin Royal Development Project and local museums mean that visitors to Nakhon Si Thammarat have a range of fascinating educational excursions to enjoy. The huge watergate on the Pak Phanang River protects local rice crops. This project is popular with domestic tourists who want to learn more about how the Royal Projects have helped the local people and boosted the kingdom’s development.
 
Awesome Taste: The province of Nakhon Si Thammarat offers many types of cuisine, but especially famous are the khanom chin rice noodles served with a variety of sauces. Tourists can take food tours and enjoy some amazing local cuisine, which is unique to this district with many dishes making use of the abundant local seafood.
 
Getting to Nakhon Si Thammarat is easy with several direct daily flights from Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport offered by Nok Air, Thai Lion Air and Thai AirAsia. The Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport is 12 kilometres north of the city.
 
There are also sleeper trains from Bangkok, which depart twice a day from the Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lamphong) at 17.30 and 19.30 Hrs, respectively.
 
Nakhon Si Thammarat is also well-served by mini-vans to other Southern towns; such as, Hat Yai, Surat Thani and even Phuket and Krabi, with all buses leaving the town’s main bus station.
