International association meetings choose the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

The second half of the year events are expected to attract over 500,000 delegates and visitors to the Centre.

KUALA LUMPUR – 10 high-profile international association clients have selected the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre(the Centre), Asia’s only AIPC (International Association of Congress Centres) Gold Standard venue, to host their events between 2017 and 2020.

These include the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress 2018; 6th World Congress of Total Intravenous Anaesthesia and Target Controlled Infusion (TIVA-TCI) 2018; World Cancer Congress 2018; International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) World Congress 2018 and 62nd International Statistical Institute World Statistics Congress (ISI WSC) 2019, to name a few.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Worldwide Exhibition for Incentive Travel, Meetings & Events (IMEX) Frankfurt 2017, the Centre’s General Manager, Alan Pryor, shared, “We are delighted to be attending our 11th consecutive IMEX Frankfurt. This trade show is an excellent platform to engage with our long-standing association clients many of which are Europe-based.”

He continued, “Europe remains a vital target market and IMEX Frankfurt provides an important avenue to foster and strengthen our relationships with clients from the region as well as internationally.”

Elaborating on the Centre’s client centricity Pryor explained, “As a purpose-built facility, we are able to deliver to the customised needs of association and corporate clients and the flexibility to adapt our venue to meet the changing needs in meeting design, technology and the diverse food and beverage needs of multi-cultural attendees with various dietary preferences.”

Pryor continued, “Our engagement with clients is really viewed as a partnership and we value an opportunity to sit down with each client to discuss their event objectives. We see ourselves as a partner in providing in-depth feedback on event logistics, operational support and programme content based on our local experience. This is important for clients who bring events into an unfamiliar destination and helps alleviate concerns relating to logistics and services, identifying local suppliers and the facilitation of meetings, connecting them to the local stakeholders and supply chain. These all form part of the support we are willing to provide.”

The second half of the year for the Centre is filled with various high-profile events including Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2017, Asia Pacific Regional Volunteer Conference 2017, Asia Pacific Retailers Convention & Exhibition (APRCE) 2017, International Palm Oil Congress (PIPOC) 2017, Asia Petroleum Geoscience Conference & Exhibition (APGCE) 2017, and the 11th Congress of The Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retina Society 2017. These events are expected to attract over 500,000 delegates and visitors to the Centre.

The Centre’s expansion also continues to progress and is due to be completed in mid-2019. The extension will provide an additional 10,000 sqm of flexible and multi-purpose space, which means more room to comfortably accommodate larger exhibitions and international association meetings, as well as concurrent events, allowing new and current clients to grow their activities and/or events significantly. The mixed-use commercial development will enhance the Centre’s existing world-class infrastructure, grow Kuala Lumpur’s reputation as a premier business events destination and help attract more international events to Malaysia, Pryor concluded.
