Skål Asia Congress off to a flying start

The congress takes place at the Gulf Hotel May 12-15 with Sheikh Khalid Bin Humood Al Khalifa, Chief Executive of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority who amde the opening address.

MANAMA, BAHRAIN – The SKÅL ASIAN AREA CONGRESS (SAAC) began with a welcome cocktail party in the Grand Ballroom of the Gulf Hotelin the heart of this island Kingdom.

Members of Skål International, the world’s oldest and largest networking organisation of travel industry professionals, have gathered from all corners of the world to attend, including Mr. David Fisher, the President of Skål International.

The congress takes place at the Gulf Hotel May 12-15 with Sheikh Khalid Bin Humood Al Khalifa, Chief Executive of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority who amde the opening address.

Other keynote addresses at the conference include David Fisher, President of Skål International, and Skål Bahrain President Mohamed Buzizi. The programme also features the Annual General Meeting with election of Officers for the period 2017 to 2019.

Mr. Buzizi, host club President in Bahrain said, “We have put together an interesting and comprehensive program for all of the 125 delegates attending.

Members have been offered outstanding deals to enable the maximum number of people to attend as possible.

Qatar Airways and Gulf Air along with an impressive line-up of airlines have offered discounted airfares of 20-30% and free airport transfers have been arranged by the organisors.

The red carpet has already been rolled out and delegates are looking forward to a memorable event.

Skål Asian Area President Robert Sohn said, “Our host Skål club in the Kingdom of Bahrain has also arranged for every delegate to receive an entry visa free of charge. The authorities in Bahrain are doing everything possible to make Skål members feel welcome and I have every confidence that the Congress will be an outstanding success.”

“There is growing interest in the heritage, history, culture and cuisine that makes Bahrain such a special destination,” explained Mohamed Buzizi.”

“Over 10 million arrivals visit Bahrain every year so we really do have something for everyone. Our members are looking forward to highlighting the best that Bahrain has to offer,” he added.

Included in the programme is a B2B market place where leading Bahrain travel industry executives will enjoy opportunities to network.

Andrew J Wood was born in Yorkshire England, he is a former hotelier, Skalleague and travel writer. Andrew has 48 years of hospitality and travel experience. Educated at Batley Grammar School and a hotel graduate of Napier University, Edinburgh. Andrew started his career in London, working with various hotels. His first posting overseas was with Hilton International, in Paris, and he later arrived in Asia in 1991 on Bangkok with his appointment as Director of Marketing at the Shangri-La Hotel and has remained in Thailand ever since. Andrew has also worked with the Royal Garden Resort Group now Anantara (Vice President) and the Landmark Group of Hotels (Vice President of Sales and Marketing). Latterly he has been the General Manager at the Royal Cliff Group of Hotels in Pattaya and the Chaophya Park Hotel Bangkok & Resorts.

A past board member and Director of Skål International (SI), a former National President with SI Thailand and a two time past President of the Bangkok Club. Andrew is the former President of Skål Asia. In 2019, Andrew was awarded SKÅL’s highest award the distinction of Membre D’Honneur.

He is a regular guest lecturer at various Universities in Asia.
