Assumption University organizes Career Day for tourism students

The objective was to present students with exciting career opportunities and provide tourism partners an opportunity to introduce their company to students as well as recruit candidates for future internships and employment opportunities.

Bangkok, Thailand – Assumption University‘s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management recently organized a Career Day for students. The objective was to present students with exciting career opportunities and provide tourism partners an opportunity to introduce their company to students as well as recruit candidates for future internships and employment opportunities. In addition to the Career Fair, two panel discussions regarding tips for success in the tourism industry were included in the program. Eric Hallin, General Manager, Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok and President of SKAL International Bangkok participated in the panel discussion and shares, “The youth of today are essential to grow the quickly expanding hospitality industry in Thailand. We will need to marry Thai hospitality with modern techniques and the ever-growing influence of modern technology as well as social media. We need to make the Thai hospitality business sustainable for a long-time to come.”


Scott Michael Smith, senior lecturer said, “These student-organized events provide an opportunity for our students to receive practical experience and our partners in the tourism industry to visit our campus and meet our best and brightest hospitality and tourism students representing dozens of countries. It’s no surprise the lunch hosted by Dr. Sasithorn Phonkaew, Chairperson, Assumption University, Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management was well received, providing further opportunities to discuss how best to tailor course work to meet the needs of the dynamic tourism industry.” Scott adds, “It was an honor to have Eric Hallin visit and participate in the lively panel discussion with Khun Suchadee.” Suchadee Supploy, Assistant Learning and Development Manager, Four Points by Sheraton offered sage advice to students, saying, “Opportunities are everywhere. Prepare yourself for them. Be active. Be productive. Keep the right attitude and have an open heart and you will be a success.”

Companies that supported the event included The Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok and The Four Points by Sheraton as well as leading tour companies and social enterprises such as Asian Oasis, Yaana Ventures, Smiling Albino and Local Alike.
