Thailand hosts RadioAsia 2017 Conference

The RadioAsia 2017 Conference will explore the major aspects of the theme the "Creating Radio with Passion: Looking into the World of Radio” and how these will add to the efficacy of the radio industry in the years to come.

More than 300 radio media practitioners, policy makers, and academics across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond will gather in Bangkok for the RadioAsia 2017 Conference, to be held from 26 to 28 April.
 
Organized jointly by the Government Public Relations Department (PRD), which represents the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT), and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), the conference will take place at the Swissotel Le Concorde. It will also be a platform for learning, sharing, and innovating, as well as providing perspectives on content among regional broadcasters.
 
The RadioAsia 2017 Conference will explore the major aspects of the theme the “Creating Radio with Passion: Looking into the World of Radio” and how these will add to the efficacy of the radio industry in the years to come. NBT became a full member of ABU in July 1964; the RadioAsia Conference was held for the first time in 2005.
 
Apart from eight conference sessions, the event also consists of two master classes and a workshop. There will be both Thai and foreign speakers and experts joining this conference. Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Omsin Chivapruck will give an address at the opening ceremony on 26 April.
 
Various organizations in Thailand will hold exhibitions, as well, such as Radio Thailand, CAT Telecom Public Company, MCOT Public Company, A-Time Media, Saranrom Radio, and JS 100.
 
Radio, one of the oldest forms of electronic mass media, is being challenged by the growing popularity of social media networks. Innovation in content is believed to be the key to the future of radio, which will continue to enhance its presence in the multimedia space.
 
In Thailand, the first public radio broadcast was aired on 25 February 1930. Radio Thailand, or NBT Radio, which is operated by PRD, is the national radio network. Its vision is to be a major professional agency excelling in broadcasting services for disseminating news and information to the general public and moving Thai society toward the ASEAN Community.
 
At present, Radio Thailand broadcasts through 147 radio frequencies. Its services are also available online. Radio Thailand World Service now broadcasts in 10 languages, namely English, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Myanmar, Lao, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Bahasa Malaysia, and Thai.
