Airports recently accredited or upgraded under the programme were presented with Airport Carbon Accreditation certificates at the 12th ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, Conference & Exhibition.
HONG KONG – Airports in Asia-Pacific are committed to sustainable growth as proven by the number of airport carbon accredited airports reaching new highs.
Last week in Doha, Qatar, 11 Asia-Pacific airports received their Airport Carbon Accreditation Certificate at the ceremony held alongside the 12th ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, Conference & Exhibition. Airports recently accredited or upgraded under the programme were presented with Airport Carbon Accreditation certificates to recognize their initiatives and achievements in carbon reduction.

Mrs. Patti Chau, Regional Director of ACI Asia-Pacific said, “Airports in our region have made remarkable progress in their journey towards carbon neutrality. Last September we welcomed our very first carbon neutral airport and in just a few months, we welcomed another two carbon neutral airports. We are proud of the 37 Asia-Pacific carbon accredited airports; these airports account for more than 29.5% of air passenger traffic in Asia-Pacific. Going forward, we will continue to encourage airports to establish targets on carbon emissions reduction and work with our members to achieve sustainable growth and join the 183 airports worldwide in becoming Airport Carbon Accredited airports.”

Originally developed and launched by ACI Europe in June 2009, Airport Carbon Accreditation was extended to airports in Asia-Pacific, in November 2011 (in partnership with ACI Asia-Pacific) and to African airports in June 2013, (in partnership with ACI Africa) and North American airports in September 2014 (in partnership with ACI-NA).
The programme is administered by leading consultancy WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff and overseen by an independent Advisory Board including representatives from the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change), ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation), UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme), the European Commission, ECAC (European Civil Aviation Conference), EUROCONTROL and Manchester Metropolitan University.
